I really would like to emphasize a point that was brought upon here: Many don't know they're underperforming at all.

Take the leveling experience. You see something that moves, you hit it, if it gives you a damage counter, keep hitting till it dies. Congrats! You've gotten EXPERIENCE POINTS. It's funny how it's even called that. Now if you check it out, the game has quite the exponential learning curve. You come from... well what I just said, about hitting aimlessly anything with just the random junk you had and you're doing good cause oh my god avatar weapons!! And... Then you drop into a world of checking where to hit the boss, when, when to stop, where to stand, when to stand where, when to avoid or else you're dead in one hit, what to never hit and what to hit as fast as possible, and what is even the best way to kill faster.

Think of the importance of rotations in leveling.
I'll tell ya bluntly: 0. Nothing. Nada. Nanimo. Ei Mitään. It's entirely insignificant if you're just auto-attacking or you're making the "by the manual" optimized rotation to your class. You may get into a party on a dungeon with no tank, where everyone is running madly around the boss, healer keeps people alive cause how hard is it to die on leveling dungeons, and you're doing the top tier rotation at the back of the boss, while that one OP class of the patch auto-attacks and does the SAME DPS as you, cause... hohohooo 3 levels of difference and Avatar weapon. It all just really nullifies the importance of any learning.

Now, you drop directly into that world of knowing what to do. "But hey, come on I've always done this and everyone was happy on the party!!" And sure he's right. It's been like this on leveling, but well, now the auto-attacking and not avoiding hits are literally only a tad better than AFKing. The healers DPSing are crap, the tankers don't just aimlessly hit whatever whenever and don't bother with avoiding cause the shield/block was doing fine. How will a new player ever know he's not doing well?
He just did what he always did and was good. Now he's suddenly dying all the time. What is his conclusion? Gotta stop dying. I'm doing DPS but I'm dying, that's what I should fix. Well, newbie learns avoiding hits. He stops dying. But yeah he's as good as a Thrall there. On his own mind, he's doing fine, he's doing DPS and not dying! What else is there to do? Then... yeah he's sucking and gets trashed. That's why I can't really get mad at side hitters and such that do terrible DPS. It's only normal. Never were they told what's their DPS and what even is a good DPS. They hit, things die, that should be fine right?

This is why, I do think that players should indeed get taught about those stuff. Simply because there would otherwise be no way for them to ever know it's bad/wrong if they're not dying. They will be expected to do some level of performance, and I'm sure not against expecting this (specially because in some cases it's downright impossible to clear a dungeon without meeting some DPS goals on shields and such), but they should have some base to even know they're underperforming and what should they even do to stop underperforming.

"but you get X crystals from quests! There's no excuse to not use them" yeah.... But then go and read the Pounding ones. They do flat damage increase for ANY monster. How come can that be a bad crystal? Flat damage to anything! Going for full power instead of crits too, how would any new guy ever figure out the crit/power balances and to just NOT use pounding ones despite looking so convenient? When is the boss enraged and how is a crystal that works only during enrage phase better than another one that is constant effect? What is better, having crit power or power always? Crit power looks better but only works during crits... Too many things for newcomers to figure out, and too many things MAY be outdated in guides too. But then back at the point: when would they ever figure out, that they do need to read any such guide? Even with in-game DPS meters (which I kinda agree), what is a good DPS for the class and gear set? Why same gear sets are making less damage?

TL;DR: the game is filled with an insane amount of variables that no newcomer would ever know, and they would never know they're not doing well if they're not told so. Expecting good performance is fine/required, but they should have a way to even know how to reach those goals or that they need to reach them.

this is exactly how I play; It took my 3 years or better to figure out how to I could move around mobs( and i still forget) so i just do my little solo dungeons at 65 and grind mobs .I am a mouse clicker hitting buttons I dont usually think about. although lately i have been trying to remember to hit the skill buttons and not so much spacebar. I still havent figured out how to use my skill bar for a whole lot of stuff . So i do the very basic rotations(?)
so yeah i made one; she uses alot of pots is this normal-- mana and the others?
Is it sad that I spend longer in forums than ingame? I run my little toons 8 vanguards and whatever quests are in the area in about 2 hours if i take my time and fart around. spend like 3 hours or more going thru topics on forums.

now this is a solution
as there are no drops after lvl 60 but the occasional mat; the elite gold boost doubles the quests reward which is a nice thing to not be a "noob" with as you are told when you cancel elite.

I'm always amazed at the amount of people who don't think it's rude and disrespectful to show up to a dungeon, throw your arms in the air and basically say "carry me, guys, cause I'm a casual/newbie and can't be bothered with being useful in this run". There are 4 other people in that party and you are ruining their fun, wasting their time and nerves. You don't get to demand anything when you initiated the rudeness and disrespect. I'll say, again, what I say in all the healer hine topics: Skilled players can tell if you are just hiding your laziness and selfishness behind being casual/a newbie or whether you are actually trying, you just haven't gotten the hang of it yet or maybe got some bad advice along the way. And their attitude will change accordingly to what they see in you. I've played with plenty of notoriously toxic elitist players who've been nothing but nice to me simply because they could tell I was trying to do things right. I've heard these people give pep talks to absurdly bad players because, at the end of the day, effort is what determines the attitude.

lol i have played 3 or 4 other mmos and still to this day I am terrible at mechanics, positioning what not i would play with only 3 other ppl and our guild leader was an elite player ( yeah worked his nerve i did when they dragged me into dungeons.) I like exploring and oohing and ahing the scenery. And most if not all dungeons ppl want to get in and get done. I have one mode forward and kill everything so i dont subject ppl to this and yeah facetank all the time. alll the bad stuff. but this information is good for those that can learn. I just recently started to "kite" a little but i forget and go back to facetanking.

Gunners need so little crit. I'd go for power.

why do gunners need so little crit?

1. Arcane Barrage crits 100%.
2. Balder's Vengeance crits 100%.
3. Bombardment and Mana Missiles both have crit glyphs and they do crit frequently with just the right amount.
4. With proper rotation and play, the explosion of Time Bomb and every Burst Fire hit after the sixth fire will always crit.

That's pretty much more than half of your DPS (probably even 3/4ths of your total DPS).

It's more accurate to say that they do need a certain amount of crit; but yes, compared to most classes, the number they go for is relatively 'little'.

ah, so would power be more of a thing then for gunner?

RIP Ninja's

I'm more looking forward to the the new area's. Maybe a new level cap and some actual new content?

your not done til the barren woman sings
if it takes longer than 5 minutes I am distracted and on to something else ( I am a lady) and sometimes not even that long that's why I don't party and do dungeons you cant just kill stuff dead and move on gotta x, y and z way too long

It says all over the event page you HAVE to open them while in that level range. It's been broadcasted all over the place, has nothing to do with poor design it has to do with people not paying attention.

Announcements don't fix or mitigate horrid design. If you *iss on people and tell them it's raining, it still stinks. Hell, I'd fire whoever designed the UI elements around the event just for the 3x confirms per box. Why?! Nothing bad happens if you open a box, but rather only if you do NOT open a box. It shows a fundamental lack of understanding of basic UI design.

This means a good design would have the "box openings" be automatic; ie. every time you get one, it should simply accrue in the the potion shack total and never hit your inventory in the first place. I'd even go as far as removing the "potion shack" web interface and automatically delivering the results every 5x potions earned. No one can forget or make a mistake or out-level things as a result of placing the party ahead of toying with inventory (as a good team player should do).

I'm fairly sure they like people having to toy with the web interface in order to display some advertising. That's OK. Keep the web side that people need to click, but the entire in-game potion-box clicking mechanic should never have been put in game.

it even says on the box's what level you can open them by. It's up to the player to be bright enough to read them and i don't know Open them within item range. It's not that big of a damn deal. This isn't tumblr this is a game where everything is stated in blunt and plain english. If people don't bother to read things then it's on them, not the game. And Kyras has been this way for the past 4 they have done, this is absolutely nothing new.

Fyi I am going off topic-- MidokuPasta I like your blunt and to the point I do not suffer imbecilic post posts but going forward maybe less harsh verbiage to further a discussion along. This something I struggle with in real life and I have had to learn to extend my statements past no(which to me is an awesome answer) to include all those little words people don't cringe from.( so annoying to be tactful)

The amount of sheer elitism present in this game's community noways is so blatantly out in the open now its not even funny. Jesus [filtered] Christ. Just look at how many spoiled douchebag scrublords that got their BiS HANDED to them (yep, it was. Seriously.) crying and telling other people that their opinion is """irrelevent.""" This community I swear :expressionless:

Anyways, The point of this patch was to CLOSE the gap between hardcore and casual, by making top tier gear (Frostmetal and higher) more accessible to the solo/casual player. Yes, Frostmetal currently is a top tier set, but not BiS, there is a difference. "Top tier" (or high tier) is simply the progression point that allows you complete access to a games most difficult and rewarding content. For example, 4-star content is the current top tier content and you must have Frostmetal to do this content comfortably and to have access to it via IMS. Perhaps in the future they will introduce 5-star content/raids that will move that line back up to Stormcry(BiS) as they usually do in the past.

But I digress, lets talk about Stormcry. Stormcry is BiS, meaning it is tuned for the top 1% of the game's population. So basically; Your super-veterans, your no lifers, and your whales. Actually MAXING the gear is another story. This gear set is SUPPOSED to drain the ever living [filtered] out of your time and your wallet, to keep you playing (and ideally enjoying) their game for as long as humanly possible until you either quit or grind/whale it out to the very end like a borderline psychopath (i.e, the top 0.1% of a mmo's population).

This is the reality of a F2P Korean mmorpg, no amount of crying or boasting your ego will change that. All this patch did was made top tier/BiS a more practical/accessible option to a larger pool of players (which is a GOOD thing), tightened the power gap to reduce gear discrimination, and made the game progression feel more rewarding as a whole; So you are more likely to grind/whale out your Stormcry at the endgame.

Those who started at Stormcry are feeling the immediate effects of this, if you want to +9 that [filtered] and be about that life, you know what to do. Stop crying about it being too expensive, it is working as intended.

I will likely never have +5 Stormcry or any BiS ever again in this game, I don't want it, I am not about that life anymore, I'm all washed up. I had my little hardcore phase with this game years ago pre/early FoA patch, and now I am over it, I have moved on from playing (Korean) mmoo's like an addiction, and play Tera mostly for the unmatched combat system (still a super fun multiplayer game in general). However, I still strive to get whatever the top tier is on at least 1 character every patch so I can run that patches new content. Right now I going for full Frostmetal on Ninja, who knows I may go to Stormcry+0, but that will be the end of the road for me, most likely.

A little off topic I might regret gearing a Ninja as it has a reputation for being weak AF, and so far their dps compared to my Zerker or Archer is a little troubling, but we shall see.

totally off-topic but my little ninja rocks low to mid tier bams so far ( I don't do groups) one day I might take her up to the mobile ones but not teraliths I think at least not yet.

basically tank should hold aggro, and stand on the outside of the map looking toward the center, that way the boss will face the tank and expose his back toward the center of the map where the team will try to hit him from the back

also certain boss, depends on the mechanic you have to position accordingly
- example demokron factory, the tree boss, the tank stay in front of the tree

yes i main brawler, but i have played all other classes except healer, mystic, slayer

sorry I am not a tank but this doesn't make sense why would a tank stand outside the map? and not in front of boss to where they have his complete attention?

He means the edge of the map. However, this would only be optimal for some bosses and not all of them. For the majority of bosses, you would want to keep the boss as close to the center of the map as possible.

okay that is a little clearer thanks so much.

But why...I'm just a PVE player.

Because even with Misery you could finish any solo content 50% sooner than other classes. Unfair to them, and also because of that, some classes like Slayer, Ninja were welcomed to most parties.

well would that not be a good thing for slayer or ninja? or did you mean the opposite?
when I came back in 2017 from 2014 all the stuff from prior I brokered and got decent amount of gold for it all. don't think that will be the case this time though.

Remove the tinfoil hats. As I stated in the original post, EME did not create these ratios; nor did any players. The conversion rates were created by the BHS design team BASED ON THE AMOUNT OF MATERIAL IN THE CURRENT ECONOMY. NA TERA players have A LOT MORE materials in their possession than the other territories, by incredible amounts.

Again, let me repeat that for anyone that doesn't understand:

EME did not create the conversion rates. The BHS design/dev team did and passed it along to us, and today we passed it along to you.

If you want to blame the player, excuse me but NO, i blame spacecats and his stupid mongos.

Now posts like this are counter-productive, and will just sour the relationship further between EME and the player base. Insulting EME won't get the job done. Pointing out a problem is one thing. Insulting them for said problem is another.

nope you misunderstood. actually the thread got off-course with insults about bdo (whatever that is) I was trying to bring it back to intent; after reading your interaction with that other player GW2 is lore-heavy with a lot of content; whereas Tera is action-combat heavy or it was when first out two different games speaks to two different playstyles; no need for insults about anything. and personally the only time I like bacon is when I am eating it.
