TERA PC - General Discussion: Buying from the Store
TERA PC - General Discussion#1 Ranse10/21/2018, 07:00 PM
I am new and was browsing the TERA store for costumes and mounts. Some say "One Character Only" -- if it doesn't say that, will the mount/costume be available for all characters on my account? Or is everything for one character only and I have to buy one for each? And the game gave me boxes I have in Inventory that says I need a key to open (I think it said "Strongbox Key"). How do I get the key? Buy it from the store? Is it they give you a gift and you have to buy the key to unlock it? Being new to the game, how can I tell if the box is worth getting a key for (I may not even be able to use it)? It looks like the boxes have expiration dates -- do I have a limited time to open them or can I keep them until I figure this out or have need for them?
regarding the costumes..costumes are per character but about the mounts, some are available for all your character and the strongbox u can either buy the key in store(which is not worth) or buy it on the broker for roughly around 2k gold.
and strongbox doesnt give costumes, smart boxes does.

Unless specified, assume that each outfit only goes to a single character. So if you have multiple characters and you want them all to have the same outfit, you'll need to buy an outfit for each one.

You need to buy keys either from the TERA store or from the Rewards Emporium (which is sort of like a loyalty program). I've heard you can also get keys as a prize from PvP battlegrounds, but I can't confirm this myself

Thank you for the replies. I appreciate them.
Let me make sure I got this right:
-- Costumes are for 1 character each and come from Smart Boxes, if they give them to you as a gift, or from Postal if you bought them from the store.
-- Mounts are for the entire account unless it says "One Character Only"
-- Strongbox Keys are best bought on the Brokerage for game gold instead of from the store for real money.

Then, more questions:
-- Do Smart Boxes have a different key to open them and I can get them the same way as Strongbox Keys?
-- Are pets the same way as mounts? If it doesn't say "One Character Only" it is for the entire account?
-- Are there expiration dates on these gifts? The Locked Fashion Strongbox says it is for Hallowe'en, but says nothing about when it expires.
-- That Strongbox says the average brokered price is more than what I have gotten so far in the game -- is it worth it to a new player to open it or to broker it for the gold? I do not know anything about the possible gifts they say may be in it. I bet the odds are pretty low that a new player can really use any of it, except for the exp boost.

If you bought the outfit directly from the store, yes, it will be in a smartbox (named as such as the outfit will "smart-adjust" to the race or class of the character who opened it). But it's possible to buy an outfit directly without it being in a box - make sure to check what race/class the item is for. No sense in buying an item for, say, an elin if you don't play elin, nah'mean?

Mounts follow the same rules as everything else: it applies to a single character unless otherwise specified.

Debatable. "Playing the broker" may be the more viable option if you're able to spend the time it takes to farm the gold necessary.

Smartboxes don't use keys.

All items apply to a single character unless otherwise specified.

This one is a bit tricky. EME has gotten into a bad habit of not relaying all the important info on some items upfront. Generally speaking, items from strongboxes are permanent until used or the game goes under. That said, if an item has a time limit, you may not find out until you actually receive the item itself.

The best answer I can give here is that it depends on the strongbox. You may gain some decent capital if you sell the talent strongboxes, while the fashion strongboxes may fetch you little more than peanuts.

Hope these help in some capacity.

For this one, the locked fashion strongbox has bonus Halloween items in it until November 13th. After that, the box will still exist, but the themed items will be removed from it. The Halloween items that are listed are in the news post here:

https://forums.enmasse.com/tera/discussion/29493/keyed-to-win-halloween-hyperbox-available-now-until-november-6th

That being said, any of these themed items you receive from opening the strongboxes are permanent items.
