TERA PC - General Discussion: IGN gameplay of tera and how the UI looks on PS4

They messed with how we could have more skills configured on the controler :c
They had ONE JOB, Making the INTERFACE controller optimized. The fckn' controller mode on the PC version's only 2 friggin' flaws, are the interface and the removal of camera direction controls for melee (only ranged retaining this setup).

They just HAD to change it. Why???? Cause they want! Cause they KNOW what's better for you!

You can easily use all the skill bar on the controller nowadays, and that's exactly what I do. It all just works flawlessly other than the menu usage. They just had to change THAT and only THAT, or at most (that is, please do so), bring back camera direction and character direction modes.

that +15 belt tho https://gyazo.com/5a939d28e79ba749d5151d0cc6b87e5c

Nice catch XD
It looks very much clean, fresh and different, and I really like it, though, I am not sure on the controller how easier would it be to spam skills, but I guess I'll have to try, the actual in game controller for Tera PC is ok, I don't really play with that and I prefer the mouse/kb, but it's still a good thing for people going full gang-ho on controller schemes on PC.

Honestly, I use a controller on a lot of other PC games, but find the controller setup for TERA endlessly confusing because you didn't have proper visibility of all the buttons and skills. So to me, anyway, the new UI layout looks a lot easier to understand and use, and is more similar to other console MMOs.

Obviously, once you get used to the controller setup in TERA PC, I'm very sure it can become second nature (like any control scheme), so I'm not saying it's unusable how it is. But I do think the new layout will be easier for beginners and require less fiddling/customization to be workable.
I'm amazed they managed to get it to run at 60 FPS.

Yes, the UI itself is a major improvement that I did/do want to see on PC version on controller use. It's just done properly and all.

The control scheme whoever, seems like you'll end up losing too much skills and slow down rotations significantly. As a controller player since start, I can say it. It took me like ~5 minutes to get used to having to hold one or both shoulder buttons to swap the setup. The positions of each key regarding to the skill bar is trash really, so the UI change for this is not just welcome but needed. The sticky swap on press L1 tho... Not convinced. Meanwhile I just hold LB, RB or both, and perform the skill (swapping on the fly between 3 patterns, losing only one button relative to new system), there's this sticky thing that seems bound to mess rotations in my view. You can easily know what you have selected while your finger is literally holding the selector(s) or not, but if you press and it's changed and keeps that way... Confusion is bound to happen I imagine...

Another thing I didn't quite like on the UI in other hand, is that they seem to have removed the controller icon from the screen. On the PC version we have a controller showing up what key does what (except directional pad, which can also be used but no icons). That one is very easy to understand, and the only 2 issues with it, is that you can't drop directly into it, nor will it show D-pad shortcuts too. The way it is now, is pretty much guess work without sharp eyes, until you get used to it. The visible controller thing is just a glance and you know where is your skill.

As a TL;DR of it then: I commend them for the controller UI. It's just great. It's what I expected, and I frankly didn't set the bar too low either. Could have added that little controller icon on the side to show which button does what easier than what they have now, but still all properly labeled graphically.
Control scheme tho is one of those "don't fix what is broken", that they just had to mess with, seems like, for a LOT worse.

I just hope they did fix what IS broken, like the attack spam after cast cancel bug that plagues TERA ever since I started, and seems to have gotten horrible recently on Elin Gunner.
re: the controller scheme- If you notice in the PS4 UI video there is an option for button mapping shown. Also, you can button map with Ps4s anyway which i had to do for ESO.
Though TBH i'm not 100% following the previous comments about the PC version's controller scheme since I'm just a console pleb anxiously awaiting the Ps4 release :)

-1st post BTW, hello everyone!

It runs so smooth, now if you have a PC you get 40 fps max if you are not on a main city regardless of your build.

To people commenting on the FPS, the footage was filmed in the middle of the barren overworld while fighting one (1) BAM. Pretty much any PC with an Intel CPU could easily pass 80 fps under those conditions. What I want to see is a dungeon. Run a steady 60 fps in Kalivan's Dreadnaught on console hardware with the rain going everywhere, then we'll talk. Hell, I'd be impressed if they could run Timescape's second boss at more than 20 fps, but that content's removed. Hell, do Fraywind Canyon on a console. See what happens.

Don't get me wrong, it looks nice and all, but let's just keep it real. It's rarely the overworld people complain about when they bring up FPS issues. It's the dungeons.

The UI was part of the problem, and it says it was redone. However, part of the problem also occurs in groups/populated areas. On your own it shouldn't be an issue to maintain 60+ fps on a mediocre pc.

I have seen PC with intel core i5 @ 3GHz not being capable to run at 60 fps in the same conditions as the video in this thread.

If you consider the CPU speed from PS4 and their amount of RAM I would say that we have in that video can be good news for PC players because that would mean a hope for optimization in our end.
Will there be cross play? because the PC version could us it. Having ps4 or xbone players running around filling up the empty zones would be nice. Game feels so empty now, came back after 4 years away and I find TERA devoid and kind empty, especially while lvling up my Elin Gunner, wtf happened?

There won't be. PS4 and Xbox can't crossplay with each other due to Sony politics, and this version will be some versions behind for a while.

Well RIP TERA, I hate to be negative like that but, with that one MMO Bless Online coming out and Black Desert pretty much being the new King. I don't see much hope for TERA in the long run; especially when I am hearing about ANOTHER server merger. I don't really see many people on, it looks like most of the servers have been merged, and well. Its very tough to want to give this game money when you have to spin the loot box to get what you want (the phoenix mounts, they always hat loot boxes but you had the choice of the loot box, the character bound mount version, or the account bound version. Now it seems there is just the loot box for anything new) or deal with shady people to trade EMP for gold to buy it off the market.

Way I see it TERA needs something BIG to bring people back. IDK what but makes me sad to see TERA in this state since I played the game at when it first became free to play, all the way up to the Reaper update and a little beyond. Its almost depressing to lvl a new toon because you almost literally see no one anywhere while lvling and it makes the game seem not so much like an mmo anymore....just my opinion on what I see

Just for what it's worth, there's been no actual talk about a server merger. BHS has talked about looking into cross-server LFG, and if they do implement that, it would probably remove one of the biggest hurdles that cause people to keep requesting mergers. I'm not saying that there won't ever be server mergers (obviously it could happen at some point), but people appear to be spreading rumors that have no basis.

It's been like that ever since the game launched to be honest, other than the first few weeks after each new class is released. The vast majority of the game is in instances, so after you go through leveling the open world is more like a hub. They probably could do more to make the open world useful, but that alone isn't really an indication of server population.

I've got 80+ fps in such areas with an old toaster so I'm not particularly impressed at the ps4 either.
Now show me rk9 without a freeze and fps drops at the start and I'll stare in awe!

GTX 550 Ti also says hello and breezes through the same zone at the cap of 80 FPS.

The two things that make this possible are exactly the barren area, and they DID redo the UI. This one, is what brings me hope of it actually having future on the console. We all know from ages ago that the UI was and still is the biggest FPS hog on TERA, drawing lots of cute Elin thighs on frilly maid outfits spamming dance parties is a breeze on any modern graphics card, heck the PS4 could likely do it fine too (I guess it's about as powerful as my 550 Ti GPU wise), but not when you have ALL DEM NAMES AND GUILD LOGOS AND TITLES showing up hogging the CPU until it burns to it's misery.

Well, there is still hope that they redo the UI engine for PC too when they get it all sorted on the console version.

2015 was an horrendous year, some players did everything in their end to kill the game, arguing their move was only a protest against the gender lock but they only were griefing against new players.

It ended with the loss from thousands of players in a couple of months in several servers and put in the eyes of the gamer comunity that Tera at that time didn't take disciplinary actions against players with toxic behaviours.

The pretty much that and the Instance Matching killed open world activities.
