Thanks. One new feature that I really like is how easy it is to view and post to the forums from my smart phone. Now we just have to make all our other sites responsive...
We are looking at ways we can get more information into your profiles, like character and server information, but that is probably not going to be available for quite a while.

Larger avatars, however, are an easy fix. I'll see about getting them displayed at their full 100x100 resolution this week.

=) Can we get Tera themed emotes?

That would be cool! We have a couple options right now but a customized version would be best. I'll see what can be done ;D
Thanks for the feedback, everyone. There are obviously some minor tweaks that will need to be made, but overall we're glad you guys are enjoying the new forums. Please feel free to stretch your legs try new things/features. If something needs fixing, we'll fix it.
Thanks for the feedback everyone. We are still tweaking some settings in the new forums so please be patient with us if it takes a while to make these changes.

Aaaaand for some reason i can't edit my first post anymore without getting the "wait for approval" message.

At least it doesn't delete it this time

The "wait for approval" message is actually a feature you might appreciate. It for some reason caught your image post as potential spam/abuse/whatever. Obviously you're not a spammer, and I was easily able to approve you so that your previous posts will be displayed, and now you shouldn't get that message again.

Minor annoyance, but in the long run the feature will help keep spam out.

TERA’s next update, Secrets & Shadows, brings with it more than just the new ninja class. Soon, you’ll have the opportunity to soar free through the skies of Velika, Val Oriyn, and the Island of Dawn on your very own flying mount! Full news post here.

If you haven't watched the new Flying Mount Teaser video, dooo eeeeeet (we're really proud of how it came out):

The new TERA forums are now live! Please join us and make some new discussions (after you've read the updated Forum Rules, that is).

I'm loving the design. I'm not liking not having a scroll bar in the reply box, but I'm sure that'll be fixed soon.

That's bugging me a little bit too, to be honest. There will be a few small quirks like that to work out so feedback is appreciated.
@DocWinter - If they move (which I don't think they will), we'll let you know where to. As far as old messages, I can't guarantee those will still be accessible. I'll keep them in mind as we work to shut down the system.

For those who don't have the old forums bookmarked, you can find them here: http://tera-forums.enmasse.com/forums
I delayed this week's Q&A because of the new forums, which are now available! http://forums.enmasse.com/tera/

It would have been a little weird to start a Q&A thread in one forum, then direct everybody to the new ones.

In any case, the next Q&A will be with En Masse's Singlebear from the QA team. He'll join me on the Twitch stream this Friday, and we'll begin his thread in the new General Discussion forum. :)
Hello everyone! Similarly to the Trading Post and Guild Recruitment forums, if you have an event that is server-specific, please make sure you begin your thread title with your server's abbreviation in brackets.

A little bit about Iovation. It's a service we use to track and identify banned players and fraudulent users (like people who use stolen credit cards), preventing them from logging back into the game or making new accounts.

Our Privacy Policy still applies, and no information collected about these accounts is shared with 3rd parties: http://tera.enmasse.com/legal/privacy-policy

If anyone is getting a different error message (other than iovation) when trying to log in, please post it here as well.
Account services are back up and you should be able to log into the game normally again.
I do not have an ETA yet, but I will update this thread as soon as I have one. We had to shut everything down for this maintenance and some of our services are now having problems communicating with each other.
We are aware of the log in and support issues after this morning's maintenance and we are working on getting everything back up as quickly as possible.
We are aware of the log in and support issues after this morning's maintenance and we are working on getting everything back up as quickly as possible.
We are taking a look at the problem now.
I meant to visit multiple servers today but got caught up in preparing for... ninja things. I'll try to visit more tomorrow to get some P's in some paws.
Extended maintenance tomorrow will run from 4:00 AM to 9:00 AM PDT. The extended downtime is mostly server tech related, although there are a couple changes that are going into effect once TERA is back online.

For the full patch notes see:
There are several pages of class changes of which mystics themselves are about 1.5 of them. We are getting caught up to https://sites.google.com/site/yoshasstuff/class-change-8, as close as I can see right now.
Abscess Event won't be leaving until the Ninja patch.

And by that, i don't mean a secret patch.
So about that....

1. You recently made good changes to the PvP merchant. During peak hours we're now seeing 2-5 minute queues for Fraywind and CS which is amazing. The update included the enchantment boxes and starfall mats most importantly. Are these going to stay?

2. Ktera got a new enchanting system that involves using an identical piece of gear to enchant, this method doesn't require alkahest and only the fodder gear however you can no longer dismantle feedstock tier 8 or higher.. Meanwhile awakening enchanting requires feedstock and alkahest (current method). Meaning the methods for obtaining T9/T10 feedstock for awakening is limited to vanguard rewards, dungeon drops and the new pvp reward boxes you recently implemented. I feel like this will make awakening enchanting even harder. Do you have any thoughts on this?

3, PvP gear seems all out of wack. The new T9 pvp set which is ideally supposed to bridge the gap between full +15 pvp and mid tier looks to be worse then starfall.

Look at the stats here, credits for this goes to Yosha

The T9 pvp chest higher defence mod but its missing +13 PvP defence and an extra roll. Why does the T9 pvp chest have an enraged line but not a flat damage reduction line?

Anyways I don't expect an answer for that one as it is out of your hands mostly it just seems strange.

1. Aiming to keep as much as possible. Cap is going up as well as the gain rates per W/L, so prices will be adjusted up accordingly.

2. Thoughts have been had.

3. Nothing I can do about that.

The Imperator (vm7) mats will be available both in PVE and PVP. The 2 new dungeons will drop mats, along with their HM's, as well as PVP stores for some but not all of the mats. There is that new token store (called Arborean Essence) in some places that you can get mats out of too.

The Conflate set (was: Shining) is going to be all from the PvP stores except for the ore that you need.
It will be turned back on soon. Sorry for the interruption!
You do not need to wait for the categories to load in if you want to purchase EMP with your Steam wallet. As long as you can see the "Buy EMP" button in the store, you should be able to launch the Steam EMP purchase flow. You can then use the web store to purchase items if you are still having trouble with the in-game store.

My team is still working on tracking down why some people are having trouble with viewing the in-game store.
I've checked the accounts of some of the people on this thread to verify that they still have Elite status in our account system. It looks like the problem is that one of the many account login servers is reporting some bad data. We are tracking down the bad server now.

If your Elite benefits are not showing up in game, log out, close your launcher and restart your game. You do not need to try to reinstall or repair your game. You will know if the launcher picked up your Elite Status properly if you are missing the "Upgrade to Elite today" advertisement in the upper right corner of the launcher.
My team is looking into this problem now.

Agreed. Worst stream ever. Sorry for the tech difficulties.

Thanks a ton to those on AV and in the Twitch chat for your patience, and for sticking around to experience a small taste of the action I planned. I'm going to reschedule the big BAM event stream for next week.

Congrats to everyone who correctly answered today's trivia! Please check your Twitch inboxes in the next hour or so.

I was a runner up but didn't receive anything
Edit: nvm got it thank you!

You're welcome! Thanks for putting together such an excellent costume :D
Oh by the way, if you tuned in and answered a trivia question, check your Twitch inbox. It's the only way I'll know what character/server you play on.
So right now, we have the power hours all weekend, as well as triple drop on FIHM, DSLower, KDNM, and KDHM. That's about the extent of what I can do right now. I will aim to get an event that affects awakened enchanting but that won't be this weekend.
aeyrebaby on 04/29/2016, 11:33 AM - view
can u award the prizes for the other events b4 the weekend starts :(

The winners and runner-ups of the Hello Kitty contest got their rewards this morning. As for the rest, I promise I'll do my best!
We can do triple drop as well, but that event doesn't apply to Dreadspire.

OBEY MY FLOATING HEAD! Watch the official TERA livestream!

Today starting at 3:00 PM PDT, I'll pay a special visit to Ascension Valley. There, brave heroes will be required in order to face an epic threat. If you have a level 65 character on Ascension Valley, form up in Velika and be ready to make raid parties!

But what is the nature of this menace? What horrific beasts are in store? Where will the battle take place? Most importantly, is there LOOT?! You'll find out in just a few hours!

If you don't play on Ascension Valley, don't worry! We'll have some fun in Twitch chat, play some trivia games, and hand out our own giveaways on the air.

See you there!

There is no event currently that will affect awakening enchanting. I will see how to make this happen before the ninja patch even if it is a little cumbersome.

I've also turned on power hours for the entire weekend as well.
Hi All,

The enchanting event will not apply to +15 enchant, only up to +12. I am extremely sorry for any inconvenience this may cause, but the information I was given initially was misleading. I did want to make sure this was made known before the event actually begins, however. We are extending this event by 24 hours to make up for the confusion.

Thank you for understanding,
Jerichow on 04/29/2016, 11:27 AM - view
Okay, so I want to ask, since obviously at this point in time there is another 'event' going on that is getting some uh.... massive negative backlash.

Yes, I'm talking about the Triple Enchant event.

Is your team responsible for any part of this? Are you guys able to create events like this, and by that regard, are you able to make changes to events like this? I'm only asking because the community has pretty much gone into full rage mode after Treeshark revealed that it does not affect awakened enchanting.

Hi Jerichow. The enchanting events are controlled by game code and my team is not able to modify them. The kinds of events my team typically work on are the events that replace the welcome message, in-store events, and community events like Bamkiller and Skyring Slam.
Calla on 04/29/2016, 06:19 AM - view
I'm not sure if this has been asked yet, but I'll take a stab anyways.

Q: Are there any plans to re-release older cosmetic items that we haven't seen for a while? Such as dyeable arins costume, or the blue halo that was released back in 2013. If not, are there any plans or would it be possible to implement an item that allows the unbinding of cosmetic items (while rendering them untradeable so the market doesn't get killed) so that we can use items that haven't been available for a long time? I could foresee this being a great thing for the limited time hello kitty costumes as well.

Hi Calla. I can't talk about release plans for specific items, but I can say that we do re-release older cosmetic items that are not currently available from our in-game store.
SweetThing on 04/29/2016, 05:50 AM - view
How do you plan to improve the game without taking Events into consideration? Lets say "Event" (etc) is an unknown word. Do you think youve (team) achived enough? If not? why not, look how far we are. If yes, why? Are they still ways to go?

Hi SweetThing. There are still a lot of things my team can do and are doing to improve TERA both inside and outside of the game. I've already talked a little about our plans to update our game launcher, improve our in-game store, and launch new forums. We are also looking at better uses for the welcome screen and finding new ways to connect our players and to make it easier for them to share their in-game accomplishments.
KAJINOFE on 04/29/2016, 05:12 AM - view
This is most likely a BHS question but I wanted to ask just in case you guys have any information on this. Is there any plans to port TERA to Linux maybe via steam?

Hi KAJINOFE. You are correct, that is a Bluehole question. I can say my team has not been asked to build a TERA launcher for Linux.
DetectiveMitten on 04/28/2016, 03:56 PM - view
Serious question time now, do you have upcoming or have you got in the works another form of in game event that hasn't ever been shown? And also (if you help work on it) 'Blast from the past' will we ever see the return of it or a newer version of it?

Hi DetectiveMitten. There are plans for new in-game events, but I'm not able to talk about them. The best source for information on those events is going to be on our Friday Twitch streams, on our web site news feed, and on our social feeds. I also want to call out the great job Spacecats has been doing with his random acts of in-game shenanigans.

My team didn't work on the 'Blast from the past' system so I can't say if it will return to TERA.

Thanks for answering the question on the forums.

Did you make any changes to the forum search engine?

We are using the search engine provided by Vanilla forums in our new forums. One change that was added that I really like is the ability to search within a thread.
Yumiaaa on 04/28/2016, 03:28 PM - view
Hi Geletron! Thanks for answering so many questions so thoughtfully, I'd thought I'd give my own Q.

Will it ever be possible to unsoulbind items, or otherwise move them inbetween characters? I for one, own alot of costumes bound to characters whom were deleted or no longer in use. Will Tera ever see an 'unsoulbind' item in the account services in the future? Thanks for any reply :)

Hi Yumiaaa. I do not know if an item exists or if an item will be created that will allow players to re-soulbind cosmetic items. On the code side of things rebinding cosmetic items is limited to tools that Bluehole provides and that our customer service team uses when support tickets come in. Unfortunately the tool does not provide API access that my team could use to create an account service to rebind items so there currently is no plan to add a service like that to our web site.

Between 4/29 and 5/2, item enchanting will have three times the usual success rate! It's the perfect time to make that final push to +15 in preparation for the new dungeons coming in Secrets & Shadows.

Hello Kitty loot boxes are now for sale in the TERA Store!

There are a plethora of items available. See today's news post for more details:

Edited by: Spacecats 1 minute ago
i'll see if we can get the item level slightly lowered for the vanguard requests for the top dungeons.
Kirine on 04/28/2016, 01:56 PM - view
Up for one more? :)

Under the loot box section in the Tera Store (browser version) is it possible to implement subsections (eg. mounts, cosmetics, other)? Or an overall better searching and filtering option for the Store?

The merging of different weapon skins into a smart box was excellent(!), but in some sections we have 10 pages worth of things to select from and browse through and I feel with the constant addition of new things, it will increase and makes harder to arrange similar things next to each other and compare them.

We are planning an overhaul of our web-based TERA store. We are happy with a lot of the changes we were able to get into the in-game shop, such as item search, related items, filtering, and purchasing multiple items, and we are planning on getting those changes into the web TERA store as well.

As for when, well there are still some changes I would like to get in the in-game store first before we redesign the web TERA store. Namely, making it so buying stacks of items delivers a stack of items and getting EMP purchases available in game.
Kirine on 04/28/2016, 07:17 AM - view
I really like your style Geletron :)

Q: Are there any plans on making more account bound items, aside from mounts like costumes, weapon skins and accs or pets from the EMP store?

We already have the Steam-Powered Pack for reference :) so more packs?
Even some non-dyable versions of the costumes would be nice.

Hi Kirine. Account bound items are kind of an interesting topic, at least to me. Up until last year we had a limit to the number of items we could designate as account bound because a limitation to how account bound items were stored in our systems and on TERA's servers. There was a real concern that we were going to run out of space so we didn't create too many account-bound items. Last October we deployed some changes that added some additional space and that make it easy to add more space when needed.

We have offered some weapon skins, costumes and pets as account bound items so it certainly is a possibility we will offer more in the future.

One simple but BIG question many players have mentioned a lot: Is it technically possible for NA Tera to activate dungeons that have been disabled in Ktera? The reason for this is because one thing that pisses a lot of people off and makes them leave the game for BnS/BDO or whatever is the constant unnecessary removal of content by BHS that happens every major gear patch. It may make sense to remove some dungeons that are completely outdated, but BHS often removes dungeons that are still very relevant which often causes a negative effect on the economy. For instance, Akerons inferno was removed for the last gear patch even though the drops of schisma and inferno ore were still very relevant. Inferno ore ended up spiking in price on the broker because of a lack of ways to get it.

Next with the ninja patch comes the highly unnecessary removal of FIHM and Dreadspire. This is, again, a poor decision by BHS. Dreadspire drops VM6 mats, Dreadnaught, ore, and BoE Starfall, all of which are still going to be relevant next patch. FIHM drops chests and VM6 mats, which will also still be relevant. Neither of these should be removed from the game, and their removal is pretty much guaranteed to result in negative feedback from NA Tera just like this practice has done in the past. A great way around this problem would be if we could have a permanent "Event Dungeon" system similar to what we have with ABHM, that cycles an old dungeon with updated drops weekly. Or if NA Tera can just simply keep Dreadspire and FIHM with the Ninja patch. Either of these would be great.

Hi Kiraboshi. As far as i know, we can't activate dungeons that have been disabled in Ktera. I know our production team has been sharing our player concerns with Bluehole about removing dungeons.

I'll ask Treeshark if he can give some more info on this thread.
LessThanNone on 04/27/2016, 09:22 PM - view
That moment when you accidentally guess the url to the new forums...

Anyways, on to my question. I'm not sure if you're the appropriate person to answer this but since you said you worked on the game stores I'll ask it anyways. Have you ever considered having different currency options for buying EMP/elite other than just the American dollar (with adjusted prices to fit the current exchange rate etc.)? I know a lot of us Canadians are rather hesitant to purchase in American as our credit card companies love to give us the worst possible exchange rates along with charging foreign exchange fees.

Hi LessThanNone. We have been working to get additional payment providers on our store so that players have more purchasing options than just PayPal and credit cards. We are working with a vendor now that will allow region specific payment options, bank transfers and gift cards. I don't have an exact date when this will go live (I know, it's surprising :) ), but parts of the integration are being tested now and I do plan on having it available in May if everything goes well.
This likely isn't something En Masse can change on our own, but Bluehole might be able to. It does seem like an unintended situation since ilvl should directly equate to an item being more useful/powerful.

I'll talk to Treeshark and get a request sent in. We were able to change Vanguard Requests after Dawnfall so maybe we can change ilvl requirements for the Secrets & Shadows update.

Priests/Mystics - what's your ilvl at right now when wearing ideal PvE gear?
We haven't said yet.

Any plans of adding features to Tera Launcher? It would be nice to allow multiple instances of the launcher. But the feature I mostly want is being able to enable auto-login (not interested in linking Tera account with Facebook or Steam). If there's concerns about security, just force Account Armor for auto-logins.

We have a lot of features we would like to add to the TERA launcher. One of the challenges about being a technical producer is only being able to do about 20% of the projects you would like to do. In the long term we would like to build a universal launcher that would make it easier to manage your account, sign up for beta tests, and download all our games from one spot.

Here are the features I would like to add to the launcher in the short term:
* Security token so you only have to log in once every couple of weeks
* Ability to enter promo codes directly in the launcher
* Ability to see the number of open CS tickets you have as well as a direct link to the support site
* Ability to start patch downloads without logging in

Hello Geletron, ive been following teras talks updates past 7 months since school has kept me busy but im still watching how tera moves forward and i see great hope for its potential

- My question
back in the day X1-2 years ago i used to play tera 24/7 and my greatest ally as a new person to it leveling more and more getting higher up was the IOS APP made by some person called tera it was up to date and it was amazing till reaper came and as much i emailed them to please update they wouldnt its pretty out of date now what plans do you guys think you might have for bring out a IOS app that provides info on the game and helps you manage your account? Thanks so much Ps- Do you watch anime and if so whats your top favs?

Thanks for the question krypticgamer06. I'm not familiar with the iOS app that you are talking about. We have talked about the possibility of developing our own mobile application for a while now, but there are no concrete plans. Ideally I would like to find ways to make APIs available for the community so they can build their own web and mobile applications. I see so many great tools that the community has put together, such as the glyph calculator, that I don't think we would have the resources to build. Creating APIs to make it easier to get the data, however, does seem more doable.

I do not watch a lot of anime shows. For movies, my favorites are Akira and Ghost in the Shell. I was able to watch a showing of Akira in the Cinerama theater last year and that was a lot of fun.

Ever considered switching out of Zayo as a service provider? The latency while on their network is unbearable.

Hi CSalv.

We use a number of ISPs in our office and out of our collocation center including Zayo. We always look for vendors that can give us a good combination of coverage, service, and price.

I wish I had some more questions to your job, but they've all been answered. I also love your ideas for event loot boxes and grand prize items.

My only question is how big is your network team, what are the job requirements and are there positions available. XD

Hi Ultemecia. We currently have 5 people on our network team. Each member focuses on different aspects, such as server configuration, network maintenance, setting up hardware in our office and in our collocation center, and working with various ISP and CDN vendors.

In general we look for people with the following attributes:
- Gamer or industry-level knowledge of MMORPGs
- A passion for PC and Console online games
- 2-4 years experience in the position for which they are applying
- Good communication skills
- Experience in the MMO industry (this is a plus, not required)

We are looking for a Database Developer (http://www.enmasse.com/jobs/d601) now and we do post new positions from time to time.

There has been talk several times about a new forum So what is the status of new forum?

What is the most important change you want to see made to the forums?

To Space Cats and all you folks at EME you guy just keep getting better, did someone at work purchase a bunch of Deming's Books? :)

They exist:

Right now we are finishing up the configuration, adjusting the design, and testing features. Some TERA players have been helping us test them and pointing out to us changes we can make to improve the experience. The plan is to have them rolled out before the Secrets and Shadows update goes live in May.

Reasons - chance of getting the price perfect and right on the first try is probably close to 0%. Pricing it too low would have pretty much ruined any shape changer "economy", but pricing it a bit higher will let me see how to adjust it, or if it needs to be adjusted. Current broker prices were taken into account, but the more difficult problem is that prices vary among servers, and we have to set 1 price for all servers.

Not sure if this is an area you work on, but just in case: what is the reason KTera's UI is less laggy than NATera's? Since not long ago some people have found that replacing the NA UI files with the korean client ones eliminates a lot if not all of the lag when opening, closing and using interfaces in-game.

The issue with the laggy UI has been brought up for years since the game released in NA, so it'd be interesting to know if this is due to something not working properly in our client or if it's simply because Korea's build is more updated (since they are a content patch ahead) or optimized. Whatever the cause, I hope NA can enjoy, at some point soon, the same better UI performance as KTera without players having to replace files.

Apologies if this is the wrong Q&A thread (in that case, can this be forwarded to the people who could know what's going on?). Thank you.

Thanks for the question, Banim. I don't have an answer to your question, but I do have a technical contact at Bluehole and I will forward it on to him. If I hear something back about this issue, I'll post an update to this question.

Hello Geletron!

Since it is you and your team who supervised the creation of the Kyra Potion Shack, the Golden Gift Box system and the launch of TERA on Steam, is it safe to assume your team also worked on the creation of the TERA Rewards system and the TERA Emporium? If yes, how do you plan to improve it in order to be attainable for more players who do not spend EMP (lets face it, the current system is way too EMP based and loyalty doesn't exist only in buying EMP). If no, Do you have plans to tweak the current events your team created, and activate em on more Holidays?

Hi Zoknahal. Our work on the TERA rewards and Emporium system was mostly confined to integrating the reward points and reward credits portion of the systems with our account management and GM tools. I know the production team is reviewing player feedback from the forums and the TERA subreddit on how we can improve the program and make it a little more accessible to our free-to-play players, but I don't have details on specific changes we are going to make nor when those changes will be added to the game.

One really cool change that was developed for the TERA rewards system is on how items are delivered. Traditionally we have not been able to deliver stacks of items to players unless the stack of items is configured as its own SKU in game. That is why we used to sell stacks of loot boxes as separate items on our store. We worked with Bluehole to develop a new API that would allow us to deliver stacks of items so we could send one stack of 150 credits instead of 150 stacks of one credit to a player's item claim. My next goal is to update our in-game store so we deliver stacks of loot boxes instead of individual loot boxes when you order more than one.

We do have lots of plans on how to tweak Kyra's potion shack and gifting, though not all these plans have made it onto the development calendar. Here is a brief list of some of the changes I would like to make (all of these are subject to change):

1. Add the golden gift-box center to the in-game store.
2. Change our event RNG boxes so that your chances of getting the best items are increased if you have already opened some boxes without winning something.
3. Add grand prize items to our event RNG boxes so we can do stuff such as give away 3 Alienware computers or something along those lines.

We would also like to find ways to make it easier to bring back some of our older events such as Bamkiller and make details for those events visible in-game.

Gonna quickly answer this one: Look up Scaleform UE3, it uses single threaded (most CPU's have 2+ cores aka dual threading or x-threading) CPU (newer games use the GPU due to it's free resource allocation and specialized peripherals [graphics cards]) rendering for TERA's UI (something constantly updated). Combine these 3 things and you get TERA's UI as a bundled, unoptimized mess.

Onto my question:
I imagine since you handle login, web, and server client loads Geletron that you probably dabble in the hardware field equally as much as the software side of things. How up to date is TERA's hardware for the web server, login server, client server, etc?

(On a side note, I really dig these weekly asks Spacecats, they're pretty good at keeping the community in touch with some of the lesser known members of the dev/production team which is EXACTLY what the community has been asking for for the past 1 and a half years)

Hi Maxog. We have an operations team that maintains our servers and network, but I can answer your question.

We have spent the last couple of years modernizing our infrastructure. The web servers, login servers, and other services are virtualized so we can spin them up and down as needed or move them to a new data center in case of an emergency.

TERA game servers are a little more complicated. TERA was designed to run on physical servers (about seven or so per world) and some of the hardware has been running since before launch. The physical servers are really expensive to set up which is one of the reasons we have avoided setting up a dedicated public test realm.

We are installing new hardware in our data center in the next couple of months to which TERA will be migrated. I don't have an exact date on when everything will be migrated, but that does mean we do have a few more extended maintenance windows coming in the future.

On a side note, we are also experimenting with virtualizing TERA. At this point we have run every part of the TERA infrastructure on virtual servers. It was one of the reasons why we didn't have as much lag last time we ran a double-drop weekend.

Why did it take so long for Tera to be released through steam? What was the most challenging part of that process you can tell us about?

Hi StarSprite. The most challenging part about getting TERA on Steam was working out the billing system. We figured out how to integrate Steam and En Masse accounts a couple of years ago when we published ZMR on Steam.

We were initially going to publish TERA on Steam in 2014 before ZMR, but we had to delay when we realized that we didn't have a way for players to sign up for Elite Status using Steam subscriptions. You are not allowed to redirect players to a subscription site that doesn't use the Steam wallet when players launch the game through Steam.

The compromise that we worked out with Valve was to offer the Elite Status vouchers. We worked with Bluehole to get them added back to the game for the release last May.
Angellys on 04/26/2016, 08:58 AM - view
Hi, I had no idea what to ask about the game so here's a personal question: what were your childhood dreams and why you decided to pursue this career?

That's OK Angellys.

My childhood dream was to become a research scientist. I'm a naturally curious person and I though it would be awesome to get to do experiments all day in a lab. I got to work as a research assistant at a cancer research lab while I was in college, but I had to find something new to do because working around chemicals all day triggered severe migraines for me.

As for how I got into the video games industry and why I chose to pursue this career, pull up a chair and old Geletron will tell you how that happened:

I wasn't allowed to play video games at home as a kid since we were poor and my parents thought it was a waste of money. I used to sneak over to my friend's house or my cousin's house to play games since they had Atari 2600 and NES game consoles. When I was older I saved all my money and bought a Gameboy portable console.

I really started getting into video games in college. My dorm floor used to have LAN parties and play Warcraft II or Starcraft when it came out. In those days only one person needed to have the disk and you could spawn copies for multiplayer.

After graduating I tried to get a job in the industry, but it turns out no one wanted to hire a fresh college graduate with a degree in English and a background in chemical engineering and organic chemistry.

Eventually I was hired as a variable data print operator at a print company because I knew how to use VBScript to manipulate data in Microsoft Excel. At night I read technical manuals and taught myself how to use Photoshop and how to build web sites using a text editor. I figured the only way I was going to get into the games industry was to become a web programmer so I focused heavily on learning about that.

For the next 7 years as a web programmer, as an iOS programmer, and as an Android programmer for an engineering company in Minneapolis. I was also keeping an eye out for interesting job opportunities in the video game industry.

After a particularly harsh winter in Minneapolis, I decided I needed to move. I chose to move to Seattle since I grew up on the west coast and since so many technical companies have offices here. Luckily En Masse had a job opening available as a front-end web developer and since I had a lot of web and mobile programming experience, I got the job.

One of the draw backs of TERA is to get it to run smoothly one must optimize it themselves, simple things such as changing files to tell TERA to use more cores of your CPU, reducing particle size, ect. With out doing this the game is near unplayable at the higher level. That and the amount of memory leakage, why has this not been addressed and fixed in four years? If there are no plans on fixing it why not set up walk throughs on these forums for those that want to enjoy the game on the higher level, show a sign that yes it is an issue and En Masse can not fix it but would like to help in every way possible?

Hi Aulon. I really don't have a good answer for you since my team doesn't work with the source code, but I will ask our support team if we can put together a knowledge base article on game performance optimization. If there is already a resource that the TERA community has put together, we can add a link to it from the community page on our site.
Derpty on 04/26/2016, 12:13 AM - view
Gee one could wonder why people bother to write page long (and more) "rants". What you mean - judging by last thread - is:
No hard questions. That people really care about. No questioning issues with services. No ridiculous inconsistent censorship questions. No state of PVP questions.

Some won't apply to GELETRON ofc, but it's for future sake.

Question time, i'll break the rule and go with 2:

1. Is the "GM" support team outsourced?

2. Did they ever play TERA?

Ps. What? It wasn't mean towards GELETRON. And judging by the
service we non paying players get it wasn't mean at all.

Ps.2. Since you build tool for them i thought you might know.

Hi Derpty.

1. Is the "GM" support team outsourced?
A. Not at this time. We did have an offsite support team in Austin last year that helped answer support questions, but now all support is handled by a dedicated support team in our office.

2. Did they ever play TERA?
A. Yes, though some play TERA more than others. Playing TERA is actively encouraged at work. If Spacecats can convince one of our customer support team to do a QA session, he or she may be able to give a more detailed answer.

"Hey sweetie, think you could get me some Rootstock later?"

Singlebear: "NAH."
Apparently the servers have been stable all day. The ops team did some investigating and there seems to be no issue on our end. It's possible this is a wider spread issue as counterpoint suggested.

No rootstock yet. Wanted to, but singlebear shot me down.

Oh god... -_-
All hail the mighty GELETRON!!!

This week's chat will be with En Masse Entertainment's Technical Producer. Ask GELETRON questions all week long (until end of Friday.) For the sake of having a fun and open discussion please adhere to the following guidelines:

* Prime Directive: Be polite to GELETRON! Despite having the forum handle of an intergalactic overlord, he's a human being with feelings.
* One question per post. This is a new guideline, but I think it will make things so much nicer for our guest, plus it significantly increases the chances you'll get an answer.
* Be succinct. No rants. This kind of goes along with the "be polite" Prime Directive. This isn't the place to post long rants or giant lists that hijack the thread. Please make your own threads for such things.

Here are some questions I've asked GELETRON to get the conversation started:

Please describe the kind of work you do.

I manage the development team at En Masse Entertainment. Our development team is responsible for building and maintaining all our web sites, our account management system, our customer service tools, our game stores, and our game launchers. We also work with game developers to make sure our platform can communicate with their game and to assist getting them integrated with third party services, such as Steam.

How does your work specifically affect TERA?

Beyond the day-to-day stuff of making sure players can log into the game, purchase items from our store, and receive items in item-claim, we try to find new ways to engage our players. My team built the Golden Gift box system, Kyra’s potion shack, the in-game store, and we launched TERA on Steam.

What classes/races do you play in TERA?

My highest level characters are a level 60 Reaper, a level 61 high-elf gunner, and a level 58 human male lancer. In most MMOs I play a tank class so my usual game play is to plant in place and punch things in the face. TERA is a little more complicated so it has been challenging to find a class that fits my preferred play style.

What other games do you like to play?

When I’m not collecting creatures to battle in Pokemon and Puzzle and Dragons, I am usually flying my ship in Star Trek Online, or playing my Paladin in World of Warcraft. I also love big single-player RPGs and strategy games so I’ve logged a lot of hours in Civilization, Starcraft, Fallout 4, and Skyrim.

What shows are you currently watching?

Game of Thrones just started season 6 so I’m really looking forward to watching that again. I just finished re-watching all the Rick and Morty episodes from iTunes. I’m a sucker for the super hero shows like Flash, Agents of Shield, and all the great Marvel shows that Netflix is producing. The last few Supergirl episodes frustrated me so I’m going to give that show a break.

If you were stranded on a dessert island, what would you do when not eating your sweet and delicious surroundings? What savory food would you miss the most?

I think I would panic. Even though I love tasty treats, I don’t like being sticky. Having all my surroundings having a strong probability of being sticky when exposed to moisture is kind of scary. I would miss bacon.

Would you rather fight a dozen Elin-sized Kumasas, or a single Kumasa-sized Elin?

I think I would rather fight a dozen Elin-sized Kumasas. They have a predictable attack pattern that seems manageable. Elin are too unpredictable. She would either beat me to a pulp or try to RP with me. Both thoughts are scary.
Any other issues? The team is looking into this. If you're having giant lag spikes please give the server & general region you're playing from (East Coast, West Coast, Best Coast, etc...)
This looks like a duplicate thread, so I'm locking it.
Hey all,

We had a really good time on Celestial Hills today. Here are some screenshots I took, but if anyone has more please send them my way.

I've been able to visit every server in the last month or so to do fun and improvised events, though I do regret that the nature of spur-of-the-moment events means not everybody who plays on each server has been able to experience it. The surprise of such an event does have some great benefits, though.

GM events that have been pre-announced have so far revolved around the Twitch stream. I'm able to dedicate more time to these, but as you guys have seen it's still a challenge to run an event that simultaneously occupies and entertains hundreds players. Even today on Celestial Hills we must have had over 100 people. Deeerp gave a bit of a rundown above, but we also encountered monsters he didn't mention like Arzakaar, Killian, Tantibus, Thalweg and Mephisis. Not to mention smaller adds, exploding obstacles, and floor spikes. All in all I hope there was plenty of variety for people to enjoy!

Getting to the nature of the thread, rewarding players for actively participating in events like these is something I insist on doing whenever possible. Lately, to reward entire raids full of adventurers, the Montori's Haul boxes have been a great way of doing this, but I've been exploring other options which are both more exciting and more flexible. I don't mean for these boxes to diminish the achievements of those top tier players able to clear Dreadspire. If I could rename them "Special Spacecats Event Goodie Box" I would. I won't get into details here, but at the moment I have a few tools in my GM toolbelt, and only a couple of those reward loot. I'm looking to add more.

Taking your feedback into consideration, I still don't think floor 21/22 boxes are an inappropriate reward for large groups participating in events like this, and I plan to do more. If that means a less experienced level 65 player gets their very first piece of Starfall because they showed up for an event, then that's actually really awesome in my book. I can only hope that others are able to be happy for those lucky players. Cheers!

So for those of us who answered first in the trivia that was on the stream...
I was under the impression that we would get codes for that? If so, where are they? There is nothing in my twitch inbox.

I rarely get time after a show to hand those out. Sorry, I usually state that on the air. Those who correctly guessed trivia answers can expect their prize early next week :)
We are incorporating a lot of fixes from the bugs you all are reporting here into our localization for our next major patch. However, some items are not simply localization we can fix at EME. A good example is seen in StarSprites post about Slowing Painblast. The effect is listed as a 100% chance, but as you can see from the chat log, it certainly isn't as simple as that. In our xmls, that is a variable.

"Slowing Painblast" tooltip="$prob chance to decrease opponent's Movement Speed by 50% for 7 seconds." skillName="Painblast"

So some of these things are going to be fixed and that makes me happy. But, some of these things will have to be sent to Bluehole for review.

StarSprite on 04/22/2016, 05:33 PM - view
The painblast glyph for the slow should be reworded, I think. It says it's 100% chance to slow but it actually seems like it can be easily resisted. Either my rng is really good or it's actually a low chance.

FWC has gotten a lot of attention lately, so it is fine on it's own now--Champion's Skyring could use some love now.

It's been a few years since Skyring has seen some EME love

I did some 5v5 Skyring during the last Spacecats Arena. We could definitely do more, though! A 3v3 vs. EME sounds kind of exciting. I think I'll plan a show around that :D

Hi! Just some simple questions (Sorry if these were asked previously, 7 pages is a lot to read through and the text colors hurts my eyes to read huge paragraphs lol)

1: Will we ever get the Alice Dress in NA? I know it was previously unreleased due to a graphical error in the skirt animation.

2: Will any of the older weapon skins be eventually implemented for newer classes? I know this answer is probably no, but I remember Brawler getting a rogue skin. Going back and making weapon skins for all of the previously released skins DOES sound like a lot of work though...but greatly appreciated work. Ex: Celestial Spirit weapon skin in reward store is great, but not for players who main reaper/gunner/brawler/soon to be ninjas. I'm sure people would love for the older skins to be available to new classes. :D

3: Will any old events such as Banquet of Blood make a return? I never got to experience it but it sounded like a lot of fun.

Thanks for your time with the community, you're really working hard reading through all of these questions.

1) this was asked previously, and currently the dress is bugged, and i do not have a timeline on when it would be fixed or released.
2) unfortunately no. going back and making these weapon skins, would require additional work, where as their focus is on creating new weapon skins for more classes. (the rogue skin was already created with a brawler weapon, and was just turned on after the brawler was released)

3) quite possibly, I have no heard of it either, but who wouldn't want to join a Banquet of Blood.

Do you mind that topic: http://tera-forums.enmasse.com/forums/general-discussion/topics/Tera-in-android-What-a-great-idea

If so, my opinion is same, why the hell they are doing mobile game, with upgraded version of unreal engine, while desktop version is bad as [filtered], if we speak about optimization. Also there are my few posts in that topic, mostly about optimization, that in beta this game was super smooth, comparing to what they did after release.

@Lawllipop - maybe BHS and/or EME don't realize that, but this game would get much more players if they actually can run this game without constant FPS issues. Any new content can't change anything, if we actually can't run this game, with even decent PC's, because this game can't take advantage of hardware which we got now. If you don't want to stop new content to be released, then hire new developers, which will take care about optimization of this game. Right now lots of players can't play without some tweaks, or breaking EULA by changing in ingame files/folders. This is just ridiculous, that you selling broken product, and you telling us that there are some "plans" to fix the game, but mostly BHS will just create new content, because this isn't something important or even necessary.

Now just look on those search result:
- "tera online new class" (2150 results) - https://www.google.com/#safe=off&q=%22tera+online+new+class%22
- "tera online fps" (2590 results) - https://www.google.com/#safe=off&q=%22tera+online+fps%22

Now lets look on trends: http://www.google.com/trends/explore#q=tera%20online%20new%20class%2C%20tera%20online%20fps&cmpt=q&tz=Etc%2FGMT-2

The trends are showing that players actually care more about FPS issues, than new class (aka new content), because they don't care about new class which they can't play anyway, because of how this game is horrible working.

first of all, amazing graph correlation. I do love me some graphs.

second, as mentioned before our current status is that we are working on improving our hardware itself, but also about optimizing the game.

and i know it is like another "we'll see" or "soon" i will get back to you with an answer, whatever it may be.

I'm not going to sift through old posts for hours or more just to pick the details as i'm here not to prove anything to anyone but comment on things. But, essentially, everybody who was at forums when talent system was being finished and deployed in Korea remembers the story, it went something like that:.- First it was supposed to be the next best thing after sliced bread.
- Then it was supposed to be the next best thing after sliced bread SOON to be available in other regions going to fix all the big problems.
- Then it was next big thing yada yada, SOON delayed.
- Then there were some bugs to be fixed. SOON twice delayed.
- Mean while Korean community reported on bugs that should be fixable in an evening but weren't
- Then in some weird slips and "over"communication (can i put it that way?) it was revealed the system development is "finished" and there won't be any change or additions.
- Then it was said new classes (after ninja, or was it brawler? One unrevealed class forward anyway at that point) won't get talents as it's not "possible" to add it.
- Meanwhile none of the bugs were being fixed.
- Then we were told nobody but ktera gets the system because it was now "discontinued"
- And now we're being told we didn't get the system because it was unsatisfactory and insignificant anyway.
There was more to it and in multiple threads again and again different people were making the same conclusion "oh look, looks like somebody coded the system, left - and now there's nobody to work with it". I think there was also something more direct but like i said, i'm not going to spend hours looking through posts, that's not the point. The point is i'm not buying what you're saying.

While in the news the game was often quoted to go F2P it wasn't really marketed as such. It was marketed mostly as Freemium which differs from F2P. The ideology behind Freemium is that you're free to play the game for free but you acknowledge you're in inferior position to premium users. On the flip side, once you pay you're equal to others. Freemium model is a response to the fact that most if not all F2P games are free in name only. The idea was that you can try the game for free and manage quite well for a couple moths till you hit level cap, after that you'd have to pay or accept being straight out handicapped. At that point another feature comes in to play: once you make a commitment and purchase the game/single sub with real money you can start using other players chronoscrolls. It's a feature BHS took from CCP's EVE PLEXes which allows one to buy premium time with in game money. While it allows for some gold buying it allows users to stay premium without spending money. But those are not "free" users in anyway as the use of chronoscrolls was limited to players who payed at least once. So, once you reached gold production peak at level cap you could buy your time in game. That way each and every player would pay for himself or drive in game economy and make somebody pay for him.
Since Freemium didn't sound as good as F2P at that time and because TERAs Freemium model didn't employ standard straight forward tactics like trade chat blocking and broker blocking (still limited but it's not the same) it became easy to fool people in to thinking the game's F2P. With time, more and more vanity items were added. Soon "free" cosmetics were removed altogether (templates anyone?) in favor in paid cosmetics. The breakthrough came with (afair) underwear, first pay2win cosmetic. It was quickly added to some events to counter the backlash but it was and in fact still remains a P2W feature. Soon (tm) more and more items (alkahest, enigmatics etc. yada yada) followed suit. (Are the t9 enigmatics dropping anywhere already? or are they still bought with real money only?)

No i do not have the link that i was talking about, like i said i'm not going to sift through posts. But i think those from first page of google search for "tera mobile" are good enough:
I think some of those are from early reports. The are gameplay videos already if you look for them and it apparently looks and plays better on a **** smartphone than on my (and most people, tera doesn't care if you run riva tnt or sli titans) desktop.

Ps. Would you kindly add (vertical) stretching to reply window? (Or will i have to inject it by hand each time i want to write a longer post (or is it the point?) ?).

Hey Derpy,

that is totally understandable, and you do not have to believe anything i say on the forums. I am not trying to convert you into a follower, and i know actions obviously speak louder than words, but as it stands right now, the Talent System is not planned for NA.

Will i talk to the developers about it again? Yes, but I can't make a promise that it would change.

as for the difference between freemium vs f2p, i think your definition and mine are a little different. From my perspective freemium would be a free version of the game which allows you to play the extent of a game, and then a paid version which unlocks additional content, while f2p at the root of it, is can a user experience all the content a game has to offer, even if the payment options are removed.

for example, a freemium game would be a game that lets you create a character and level to 10, but at level 10 you would now have to pay lets say 20 bucks to now let you level to 65.
f2p would be, if TERA were to remove the cash shop, and all of the items from it, would a player still be able to level to max level, play through all the dungeons etc. While the answer is yes, the items in the store do provide that extra for players who prefer time over money.

but regardless of the fact, I am not quite sure what the concern with what kind of option TERA has for you. is it because it has a cash shop? or players who dont spend money seem inferior to people who do spend? or how we need to balance out players who spend vs players who dont spend in battlegrounds or something?

as for the mobile version of the game, this actually does not have anything to do with our development team. Since it is for mobile, it is most likely that it is a separate team, and would not actually impact our current production.

I know we are currently working on our new forums. we have finished with the development on it, and now working on the categories and design, but i will ask spacecats if these new forums has vertical stretching.

I had liked to know who is in charge of maintaining the crusades in NA Tera? Who decides which dungeons come in the leagues, and why isnt it the current endgame dungeons. We'd expect at least KD and FI in the pve league, and 3's and FWC in the pvp league, but thats not the case...

Hi kedros,

this was addressed to us, and for the next season of the Crusade, we are looking on what we can do to address these issues. as far as who is in charge, it is a collaborative effort between us, and our developers.

Thank you for the response, Lawllipops!

I have only one issue and it's more directed toward BHS. As you know, TERA is by no means a new game; it's been around for 5 years and has been fairly successful. It baffles me that in all the time it has been around there has been no real side content whatsoever. Based on how you said "adding side content wouldn't be something that would be able to be done quickly", it seems implied that no side content, to your knowledge, is being worked on currently, either. I feel as if BHS either doesn't realize the potential the game has, or rather they don't care and have an extreme mentality of "minimal effort, maximum profit."

I hope this doesn't come off as rude, but in response to "making sure that is actually NEW and EXCITING", I must say players very frequently give feedback on what they want to see implemented. If BHS had indeed taken any of said feedback seriously, I feel as though we would have some new content by now, even something small. I can't imagine ALL the feedback they've received throughout the years has been not worthwhile or impossible to implement. Whether it's "new and exciting" or not, players have given the feedback on things they want implemented repeatedly and I'd hope BHS might someday listen to at least a couple of them.

But, as I said, this really is an issue with BHS. Unfortunately, I don't speak Korean so I'll put my soapbox away for now. Thank you for your time and sorry about the rant!

Hey Blueflam3s,

your point is very well taken, and I can understand the frustration of having empty promises. you are right to assume as of right now there is no insight for me on any new "side content" but what I can promise is that I talk to them about it, discuss a timeframe for it, and weigh its desire and feasibility.

Whether the answer is no, yes, or next year, i do wish to give you an update and keep things transparent, and know my intention isnt mean to try and dangle something in front of you and keep saying almost there.

My questions seem trivial compared to some of these other ones, but I'll appreciate answers all the same.

1) Why have we not gotten certain cosmetic items such as the cat-ear headphones and the Alice dress?

2) Will they ever be released here?

3) Would EME ever consider holding another community design contest? The last one was rather awesome, and it might be equally splendid to let NA users design more of the stuff that gets put into the game *cough* weapon skins *cough*

not at all. if you are curious for an answer, go ahead an ask, i just dont know if i will have an answer for you.

1) that is a good question. I know there is a reason, I will probably have to follow up with Treeshark, since I was not around during the time of their release.

2) probably same as #1

3) YES having more community involvement is definitely something we want to be more proactive about. Weapon skins eh? thats an interesting thought.

I am going to go way back to the days where GMs used to post a Global notice such as "I SHALL REIGN CHAOS UPON YOU" then mass Dracoliths spawned from the sky. This was amazing as it was a complete surprise and fun. For each one you helped kill you got a silly box in the maill, nothing much but some mats. This would be amazing to bring back, have the boxes give little things like Titan Embers, Master Alk or a very rare Ancient Wish.Do not announce when it will happen, just do it. It doesn't have to be hundreds to the point lag gets so bad peoples comps cry out ether, just a few OP World Bosses every now and then that take a large party to kill and every one helping gets something.

To add to this long ago on CH during the Vanarch Days the GMs of most guilds where invited to come together. In which we would chat about organizing Nexus parties, who was running for which region to ensure all of them where covered, who is hosting the rolling after event for Nexus, what other event ideas do people have, ect ect ect. During one of these a GM dropped Dracoliths on us, this moment I will always remember.

That sounds fun! i will poke Spacecats to track this event down and see if this is something we can revitalize.

Thank you for answering! I know it's probably something you may not know the answer to but some of the community feedback would require assistance from BHS to make those changes. Are they/would they be willing to make the adjustments people want?

I look forward to it! I don't have the original post of the user who made these but they'll give you an idea of what to expect in the battleground. :D

My priest has had a lot of names since I started on TR but ended up moving to MT after a little over a year. I'm an older member of the community and I happen to have/had a lot of names on multiple servers.

Someone contacted me about a name I had on a server I hadn't leveled on yet and offered me a list of names they had on MT. I happened to be looking for a new name for my priest since it was named something random at the time. Pez stood out to me the most because when I think of pez I think of the cartoon looking dispensers that pop out candy. It'd be more fitting as a mystic name since I've heard people call motes candy before so I saw a bit of humor in using it for my priest.

Not a terribly exciting story but that's how it came to be!

Since having it I've learned some interesting things. Pez candy doesn't have an expiration date (I wish my priest could survive that long in battlegrounds) and the Spanish speakers of the community tell me it's their word for fish.

Hi StarSprite,

to be perfectly honest, they are willing to LISTEN to adjustments people make, which we do send over to them, but they also work with other regions, as well as their own region to see how it would affect these regions.

A lot of times we do make compromises, and we do our best to implement what the majority of players want, that will positively impact the game, because there are some instances where players say, we need harder bosses, or other players saying we need easier bosses, we would need to take a step back and see not who is right or wrong, but what would be best for the overall experience.

not to say we have been perfect in our execution, but we do make the effort and try to iterate on these initiatives.

haha I also enjoy Pez. i used to collect the dispensers, and they were fun.

Did you know the word pez comes from the German word for peppermint, PfeffErminZ

I remember someone from EME talking about plans to make Awakening enchanting not so terrible. Does the TERA Rewards system represent the full extent of the planned changes to Awakening, or will there be more?

Hi CosmicCricket,

I am not 100% sure which part you are talking about, but if you are asking if there are going to be Awakening Enchantment scrolls for the TERA Rewards, then that is not going to happen. Since that just means people would just need to spend money and can Awaken their gear to +15 right away.

Currently what we do have is at different tiers of the TERA Rewards will offer a % increase of success rate for Enchantment, which includes Awakening.

As far as making any changes on that system, that is to be determined, because we are going back and taking a look at TERA Rewards itself and see what changes we need for the whole system, which may include that.
I just entered a bug for this. Thanks for bringing it to our attention. I looked for all the instances of the old Nostrums being given out, but that was all datasheet searching. I should have looked into the parcel messages too. My bad.

Not related to class skills but something I noticed while leveling.

When you do your first run of Cultists' Refuge the green fairy thing gives you nostrums. This was never updated when we switch from the two different nostrums to the Battle Nostrum. For at least healing classes it still says to use rangers nostrums. It's not a big deal but might be confusing to newer players.

The actual mail sent needs to be updated too.

On it.
what kind of characters do you like? ranged? melee? maybe make all 3!!!
