Jumping in here very quick to say this was definitely an error (almost certainly mine), and I'm making the fix as we speak. Should be back up and double droppin' in the next few minutes.

My apologies to everyone who had a big plan for Double Dropping the past few hours, but it is getting fixed, because it should be going until Tuesday morning PST.

Upgrade my pretty behind! :(

Sorry that's not my department.
I know there's been a little confusion around this, and I apologize for not being more clear. While the biggest point in the forums was the tradability of the Marrow Brooch, the other item flags have been updated so that they match the in-game description. That does mean that the Marrow Brooch will not be bankable in the future, either.

So we got a server downgrade, and now you guys got a downgrade in offices, are ya'll doing alright?

You'll see from my photos, but our new office is actually pretty nice. It's a historical Seattle city landmark so that's why we joke that it's haunted. As for the servers, they haven't been downgraded at all. In fact, TERA servers were upgraded a few months ago and are very much up to date.

This week from 3 to 4 p.m. PST will be a second special Winter holiday Twitch stream. Similar to last week, we'll just be hanging out in the chat and redeeming some festive item codes. "Normal" Twitch streams will resume next YEAR on Friday, January 6. Or at least as normal as things can get considering I'll be broadcasting from En Masse's new office location (they say this old building is haunted). I'll have some photos from our move to share with you all!

I hope you're all having a wonderful Winter so far. See you in the chat channel during today's stream :)

@LucyFear

This needs to be reported via Support Ticket, as "Call-Outs" are a violation in the Forum's Rules.
Normally for something like this I'd let it get uncovered in the patch notes, but I know there have been some discussions on the forum about this, and there may be some people who have already set up transactions for after the next maintenance window.

As players have noted, the item description for the Marrow Brooch from Harrowhold says that it is not tradable, but in fact it is possible currently to do so. We've investigated this to make sure we follow the intended behavior for the item, and the correct behavior is that the Brooch should not be tradable. I expect this to be fixed during the next maintenance update on Tuesday morning (PST).
For anyone still following this thread, be aware that while it is possible to trade this item in game, that will not be the case in the very near future.

The Marrow Brooch description says it is not tradable, and we'll be fixing the bug so that it cannot be traded.
Just as a friendly reminder, the discussion of Modding TERA, and more specifically, how to go about using Mods, is against the Forum's Rules.

If possible, please feel free to record a short video example of a player you suspect is using Exploits, Mods, or a Packet Injection and provide that example as a Link in a Support Ticket, and our Support Team and Security Team will be happy to review it.

If there is a confirmed Terms of Service or Rules of Conduct violation, we'll proceed to take the appropriate action.
Sorry for the confusion. We do have maintenance nearly every Tuesday from 7-9 a.m. Pacific. Unfortunately, I didn't get the messaging set up before the holiday weekend, so there were no server announcements this time.

The maintenance is now complete and the servers are available again.

EME said themselves that it was to do with the DDOS attacks on the 20th of Nov that is causing these issues.

There are huge outages during November as detailed in this post about player compensation. While these issues were significant and lasted hours (sometimes), they're unrelated to the issue you're describing.
if it says its reached its limit does that mean we have entered it? @Spacecats

Not sure, actually. I've also seen it give that same error when an invalid code is entered. It's possible it's just what the redeemer likes to say whenever the account server comes back with a "nope!" response.
The item codes for this week's stream will expire Midnight on January 5. So there is plenty of time left to redeem.
The codes are all working, but some of you may want to try later. I think it's related to whatever is currently preventing some players from logging in.
This appears to be a login/authentication issue. Some players are still in-game. Our crew is looking into why this is happening.
Things will be a little out of the ordinary this and next (12/30) show.

1) It's the holidays and a lot of us are taking time off to be with our families (namely me :p )
2) We're in the middle of an office move! I'm taking pictures to share with everyone. It's exciting, but a bit of a disruption while the whole streaming setup is in a red plastic moving crate.

You need to fix the loot in it. Prime battle nostrums (like no.. you can buy those at the npc) and Smilecrackers and fireworks? I had 53 tiny treasure chests and thats all I got was all this crap. I was expecting stuff like alkahest and costumes / cosmetics.

Fat and Tiny Santas are weird mobs, and the tiny gift-wrapped treasure chests are sort of an added drop. There are only a small handful of monsters in TERA that behave this way, and the gift-wrapped chests don't appear every time you kill them. The guaranteed loot is the stuff santas drop every time, and it's always going to be better than the gift-wrapped chests.

It's going to run every day (1pm to 4pm) until January 3. So hopefully you guys will be able to participate at some point. There's always the weekends!
Nope, the stats of monsters don't change based off the number of people fighting it.
Routing outside of our region is pretty tricky, and it will be especially difficult to diagnose lag spikes between Chicago and Australia. Considering the path data has to travel to get there, Australia is about as far from our servers as you can possibly get. We can still look into why an increase in latency is happening if you'd like to PM me a link to the EME-Diagnostic.txt file created with the launcher tool ("Tools" - "Click Here to Test Computer"), but please keep in mind there is only so much that can be done when trying to route across the planet.

Yeah if you get temp banned for spamming chat, you don't get your question answered because it gets deleted. Sorry that's just how it works :p

you guys are distracted by the current issue we are facing. how about you growing up?
you said that its an act of crying over the forum but have you really care about the current server issue in Tera?
I guess you never invest your money in this game then you know what I mean.

No-one is distracted, those who can't login or have lag still have those issues, and having a contest like this in no way makes it any worse (especially since you don't have to be in-game to participate). What, you think the IT guys are the ones reading the entries?

Fun fact, our Operations team IS reading contest submissions. I've requested that they shut down all TERA servers whenever they need to read a fan fic. This could be at any moment, seeing how submissions have already started coming in. Think about it, they can't give the story 100% of their attention if they're busy monitoring server stability. This is really the only way.

can we please get a straight answer on if there will ever be a new class that isn't gender locked?

(and none of this "buy costumes and maybe..." or "we sympathize" a simple yes or no answer will suffice.)

I'll actually tackle that one because it's something Sam Kim (our CEO) has said publicly. What you're asking is something we can never give a definitive answer for as TERA's publisher. The reason is because we aren't the ones responsible for creating new content for TERA. We work with Bluehole when it comes to suggesting and giving feedback on things like new classes, items, and other content. Ultimately they are the developers, though, and a yes or no answer would need to come from them. On top of that... when it comes to future content, TERA has many years ahead of it. The content will keep coming for as long as there are players to enjoy it.

If there's a class coming in the future it's impossible for even Bluehole to know what it will be like until it's time to plan and create that class. There aren't any hard policies in place like "this class must be this gender!" Each class is approached as its own development project.
Yes, you can send them to anyone, even the same person repeatedly.
Hi everyone,

The compensation for the network outage events will be beginning this morning at 10 a.m. PST, but there was a small hitch we discovered this morning that will change the way we distribute the Elite Time.

We will be granting 15 days of Elite Status to ALL players who log in between Friday December 16 at 10 a.m. PST and Friday December 23 at 10 a.m. PST.

The additional 15 days of Elite Status for our Elite Players will be granted to Elite Players who log in between January 7 at 10 a.m. PST and January 14 at 10 a.m. PST.

This change is a result of the way our login rewards system works. If we were to stack the two deliveries (for non-Elite and Elite Players) to run at the same time, a non-Elite player could log in, get 15 days of elite, re-login as an Elite Player, and then get an additional 15 days of status.

I apologize for the last minute change in plans, but I believe this shouldn't directly impact the spirit of the compensation delivery.

The news post has also been updated to reflect these changes.

Happy Friday!
Zoknahal wrote: »
So let me get this straight: We elite players will pretty much have a free month of elite? no charges applied?

The way it should work is:

1) If you're already Elite when you log in during the redemption period, an additional 30 days will bumped onto the end of your current subscription. (This should apply even to people who used vouchers.)

2) If you're not Elite when you log in during the redemption period, you will immediately become Elite for 15 days. (You may have to log out and back in for it to take effect.)

Correct :)
Names matter! so much!

As for my PC build, it's a pretty old system at this point. Once upon a time I got a chance to splurge a bit, so I went for a watercooled maingear with SLI'd Nvidia GTX somethingorothers. I replaced those two cards with a ... I'm going to say 980? a year and a half ago or somesuch. I'm hankering to replace the GPU again, but we'll see. The big win for my PC setup is that after I sold my old monitor when I thought I was moving (don't ask), I was using a 1080p tv for about 6 months. Now I'm using a nice curved monitor that lets my elder eyes see things more readily. I love my mechanical keyboard though, even if it's super noisy.

I'll see if I can get a shot of my desk at home and put it in the thread, but honestly,it's really dull to look at. a black slab of a tower, a monitor, a keyboard, and some books & notepads. With 3 cats, I can't leave a lot of things out lying around, or they wind up lying around ... on the floor.

And yes, Roukanken has it right: Azathoth and Nyarlathotep are originally the creations of HP Lovecraft, and are where I got the names from.

And to not leave Azathoth out of the introductions:

Welcome to TERA Neosis.
Just giving you a heads up you'll be hearing a lot of complaints and rarely any thank yous.
What's annoyed you the most during your time leveling in TERA?

I expect I'll get thank yous sometimes, and there will be lots of forum posts about all sorts of things. It comes with the job. But on to your question: The thing that annoyed me the most while leveling in TERA was outlevelling the story quests. I was in my groove, trucking through story quests, and then hitting the anchor quest at the end of a long chain that ended in a dungeon, so I'd hit up dungeon finder, get a group, finish my quests in the dungeon, and start the next story quest chain. But I hit one where I outleveled the dungeon just before I got the dungeon quest, and then I couldn't use dungeon finder to get into the dungeon, and my gunner wasn't stronk enough to solo the dungeon herself, so I had to walk away.

Then I found out that the 'optimal' way to level is just to queue for dungeons. I'm bound and determined to just work through story quests, because I enjoy the ride and getting to see the world. Plus since my life tends to lend itself to short windows of gaming, or long windows with possible breaks where I have to get up at a moment's notice, doing 5-mans is tough for me to do, because I hate to afk and ruin other people's fun.
WELCOME NOESIS. Our new TERA Product Manager has been hard at work over the last few weeks, ramping up, learning the ins and outs of TERA operations. I am 100% positive that TERA is in excellent hands!

I'll have Noesis on the air tomorrow during the weekly TERA Twitch stream so you can see him with your own eyeballs. If you've got super secret questions you want him to answer during the show, PM them to me ;D
RIP Denommenator.

But seriously, Noesis has proven to be extremely capable in his short time here thus far. I am confident that TERA is in good hands.

We'll be shipping a build together early next year, after which I'll hand off the reins.

I’m Michael, aka Noesis, the new Product Manager for TERA. I’ll be taking over early in the new year when Denommenator hands over the reins. Before you ask, the title we used to use at En Masse was ‘Producer’, but we’ve changed it to ‘Product Manager’ for a bunch of reasons I can talk about if you’re really interested. But the TL;DR is I’m the one who is responsible for making TERA awesome and keeping things rolling and unsticking things when they get stuck. On to the gaming cred, because I’m sure you’re all wondering about the new guy with the title “Product Manager” and how much of a gamer I could possibly be.

  • I used to play on MUDs via telnet back in the late 80s and early 90s, including one called Tsunami.
  • My first real MMO was Everquest, which I played in Vanilla, then did small group content in Kunark, followed by endgame raiding in the Scars of Velious expansion. My claim to shame is having camped the Ancient Cyclops in the Ocean of Tears for 18 hours straight to get the Ancient Cyclops Ring for the JBoots Quest. I still have that warrior …
  • The games I play the most right now in my free time that aren’t MMOs are the Soulsborne games. Dark Souls, Bloodborne, etc. I’ll talk about organic vs. mechanical difficulty and game design until you get bored.
  • My first ever computer RPG I played was Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord for the Apple //e. I still have the box, the disks, and the Apple //e. Last time I plugged it in, it still worked.

When it comes to TERA I will admit to being a bit of a noobasaurus rex. With the various holidays coming and going, and getting up to speed on all things TERA behind the scenes, I haven’t had a ton of time, but I do play, and I currently have one mid 60s Gunner on Tempest Reach, and I try to carve out time to play every weekend. I have been working through the questline in Spring Valley, but I’m most excited to go back once I hit the cap and try to solo some of the pre-60 storyline dungeons. My goal is to level up a few different characters and see if I prefer DPS, Tanking, or Healing. I’ve been all 3 in previous MMOs, but usually gravitated towards the healer role. Something to do with staring at health bars and making sure nobody tipped over…

That said, I’m having more fun leveling up and running through dungeons in TERA than I’ve had in an MMO in years. I am very excited to be a part of working on an MMO after literal decades of time spent playing different games.

Now on to some various facts about me that will make me appear to be a genuine human, and not a wolf in a human costume. First, let me sit upright in this chair with my vertical human spine and use my 10 fingers to type …

  • Every year I travel to Portland OR for the HP Lovecraft Film Festival.
  • My favorite band is The Residents
  • I’ve spent the night on an abandoned artificially-made island in the Pacific Ocean
  • I have 3 cats: Nyarlathotep, Azathoth, and Hatchetface. All of them are feral rescues.
  • I paint miniatures in my spare time, mostly Warmachine/Hordes. I don’t play any tabletop games anymore, but I really like buying the books and using them as reference for the painting.
  • I like to play board games, but only cooperative ones. Personal favorites are Arkham Horror (or Eldritch Horror), Defenders of the Realm, and other “Ameritrash” style games with lots of fiddly bits. I’m excitedly waiting for the Dark Souls Board Game kickstarter to deliver.

And since you asked, my forum name is the Greek term for the capability to understand what is true or real, or the facility for reason and rational thought in the human mind.

This thread seems like a repeat of what happened in the forums before the last merge.

I can't really get into what numbers we record and monitor. There are several charts that our BI and Operation teams utilize when monitoring server activity.

As far as one thread being a repeat of another, this is a discussion started because somebody wants a server merge and decided to create a new thread about it. So... yeah you're right, that's the same. I wouldn't say AV is a lot like HW, though. Each server is surprisingly unique.

Can I suggest that the "Recommended" tab on server select isnt on one of the most populated servers. I think that when new players see server select for the first time they are more likely to choose the recommended servers. One of those servers is the most populated PvE server. And with people transferring to more populated servers it keeps looking more and more dead here and we are losing more and more skilled players.

Sure! If AV players are open to the idea of getting new blood, switching the "Recommended" label shouldn't be a problem. Admittedly I don't have full insight into why Treeshark chose the label he did, and I don't want to make promises we can't fulfill from a technical perspective, sooooo... haha, I guess I'll just say Denommenator and I will have a talk about it ;)

The population on AV is very similar to other servers. At any given moment (peak play times included) it has at least as many online players as CH (sometimes more), and CH doesn't seem to share the concerns given in this thread.

So what's happening? If it's not less people playing, I see two main things people are pointing to in this thread as a reason or indicator of decreased high-level activity:
  • Few players using the LFG function to find groups. If you look on other servers, the LFG function isn't exactly popular there either. The fact is that less players use the LFG menu than before. You have guilds banding together for Harrowhold runs, static groups running dungeons without a need for the LFG menu, and players who prefer Instance Matching (which matches people across all TERA servers.)
  • The Fey Forest merge. The only server transfer offered during the FF merge allowed PvE-focused players to join AV at no charge. I don't see how more PvE players would negatively impact the PvE scene on AV. If anything, the FF merge was a benefit to AV population.

Aside from those two points, I see conflicting statements such as "players are just idling in HW making it seem like the population is high" alongside "HW is deserted." This makes it really difficult to discern what the real issue is.

More of your thoughts are appreciated here. We want to make sure AV stays healthy just like you do, so if there's a concern like this we want to address it. Looking at the server data for AV, a server merge doesn't make sense. It's too healthy of a server to warrant a merge.

We've started a new contest for writing enthusiasts! Come up with your own TERA fan fiction that explains the mysterious origin of the Skycycles, a mount that has yet to be released (though you can currently view them up close in the in-game Fashion Store). The winning entry, selected by En Masse staff, will become actual TERA lore and the official origin story of the new mount! I'll announce and read it out loud during the January 13 TERA Twitch stream.

Please use this thread to discuss the contest and different story ideas. You can post your story here if you want to share it with your fellow players, but please remember that POSTING YOUR STORY HERE DOES NOT COUNT AS AN OFFICIAL SUBMISSION! You have to e-mail your work to FanArt@EnMasse.com for it to count in the contest!

All the rules and guidelines are given (or linked to) in this news post:

Dreamstorm has been disabled in an effort to improve some of the issues individual players are reporting.

We'll be posting a full summary of recent network incidents that impacted TERA's overall network performance as well as details surrounding a compensation package tomorrow (12/15/2016).

We appreciate all the reports players have submitted in this thread. They will aid in our continued investigation and monitoring of TERA's server performance going forward. In order to separate major network incidents from isolated, player-specific issues, we are locking this thread as it has served its purpose.
In response to player feedback, and until we can pinpoint exactly the impact of this event on TERA's overall performance, we are disabling Dreamstorms effective immediately.

We'll continue to monitor network performance and investigate performance surrounding this feature, but until further notice this feature will remain disabled.
I have no idea why people call the economy "crashed", just because it's not to their liking or imagination.

Armor has changed since Secrets & Shadows. I can imagine someone logging in from that update with an inventory full of Tier 9 Feedstock that, at the time they left, used to be worth quite a bit.
Please don't create duplicate threads. There's already a discussion concerning this issue here:
https://forums.enmasse.com/tera/discussion/9028/recent-server-stability-issues

Thank you. Can you send it to Community@enmasse.com with the title "Sever traceroute" with the file attached. From there, it can be forwarded to the Operations team. There's always a chance that info could help identify a problem area they haven't seen yet.

just finished RMHM with 500 to 900ms on slayer, yay :D

Where are you playing from?
Please remove the penalty for losing the quest when you disconnect.

This isn't a penalty, it's just how the event tracks player progress. It's just a result of the way the event was designed, unfortunately.
The race will be different on each server! The course is marked with floating red orbs, with a START and FINISH sign at each end.

THE RACE CONTINUES! We will become snowmen. We will race for icy glory. But only one snowman can win.

The race track will be different this time, but like last week I'll have CM Smoreceror on call to present the audience with a photo finish, declaring the winners of each race. The 1st place winners will be awarded with a Sleipnir character mount, and the 2nd and 3rd place winners will walk away with a consolation prize of delicious Lamb Bulgogi.

Last week I visited MT, CH, and TR. This week's race will take place in:
  • Fey Forest
  • Ascension Valley
  • Mount Tyrannas

... in that order. MT gets a second shot because last week's improvised foot race was less than spectacular. The crowd demands a proper race!

In addition to visiting these servers, we'll have TERA trivia this week with some sweet prizes. We'll also run raffles in Twitch chat giving out additional prizes.

The show starts Friday 12/9 at 3:00 p.m. PST at https://www.twitch.tv/enmasseentertainment
Drops will resume today starting at 11 a.m. PST. We'll also be running this for the remaining weekends in December. A news post will go up shortly detailing this in a more official capacity.
Merged multiple threads. Please avoid making duplicates when creating a new discussion.

In regards to the ping spikes, we're aware and investigating the cause, which appears to be a traffic spike affecting a large area (including the datacenter housing the TERA servers).
We are aware of an issue affecting the servers right now and are investigating. It appears to be a traffic spike at an upstream node.
Hey all. Looking into the "Ticket not found" launcher problem. I'll post again if I get more info on it. I've also got the Ops team looking into the Dreamstorm lag that continues after the server adjustment.

@CobaltDragon Are you sure that's how it's supposed to function? It wasn't like that previously and doesn't seem fair you should be punished if your team either sucks or doesn't/can't res you

Doesn't make sense to get kicked from a match for this reason, that's why the snowman used to kill afk players at base (does this still happen?) to stop afking

I did specifically ask our QA Team if the change was intentional, and they confirmed that it was.

As for the snowman, I believe the mechanic for killing players who remain on the starting platform is still there and works.
Based on what you're describing, it sounds like the second part I mentioned with something limiting the required connection.

You'll most likely want to make a Support Ticket, and attach the text file that is created while running our EME Diagnostic : ( http://support.enmasse.com/tera/resolve-technical-issues-with-the-diagnostic-tool )

Can something be done with the bug in wintera snowfield that get u system kicked from the match when u stay dead for too long during the game? @Spacecats @CobaltDragon

I believe the intended function to prevent getting kicked while dead in Wintera is to have a nearby player assist in resurrecting your character.

Obviously this isn't ideal in a lot of situations ( like when your character dies at the very beginning of a round ), but if your team communicates well and can dedicate a player to help you up, the dropout can be avoided.
Is TERA crashing before Server Selection Screen, on Character Selection Screen, or while loading your character ?

Is it only happening while loading into the Wintera Battleground ?

Is it just a single character effected, or all characters ?

It might be something as simple as needing to run the Repair in your TERA Launcher's Tool menu to resolve a small file corruption that occurred, but it could something limiting the connection to the server, and the connection cannot be re-established fast enough to prevent a crash from happening.
For the most part, we see this when there is conflicting software that restricts the needed connection to the Launcher / Game Client.
You might need to temporarily remove some Security Software you have installed on the PC, or perhaps lower some Security Settings on Windows Firewall / Windows Defender, then restart the computer and check to see if the Launcher functions as intended.

If still no luck, please feel free to submit a Support Ticket and our Agents will be happy to assist. :)
This is a Known Issue that has already been reported to Bluehole Inc.

If they haven't already done so, it should be reviewed in the very near future and then changed so that it can continue to increase the count each time a dungeon is completed through Instance Matching, and when the requirement has been completed, the Achievement is obtained.

We're communicated player desire for un-equalized Fraywind Canyon to Bluehole and the ball is currently in their court. There aren't any announcements to be made on the topic specifically, but we have seen an increase in Battleground participation thanks to the Power Hours scheduled throughout December.

As for BG merchants, I agree they could use adjusting in a few places. I've collected quite a bit of feedback from players and the Player Council on this, and it's a topic the TERA crew plans to address in the near future.

...should have been a priority ahead of the harrowhold update.

The team that maintains server stability and handles the relationship with our ISPs doesn't work on TERA updates or localization, so there's little need to worry about one affecting the progress of the other.
Closing this thread since this morning's isolated issue has not returned. As for the latency issues that began in November, please use the original thread: https://forums.enmasse.com/tera/discussion/9028/recent-server-stability-issues
Several posts in this thread have been moderated due to bickering, political references, off-topic comments, and general rudeness towards one another.
I'm going to go ahead and close this thread. The discussion seems to have run it's course and is just filling up with a lot of small arguments and call outs.

This was an ISP traffic issue that was reported to us. It affected multiple regions and lasted approx 20-25 minutes beginning around 8:45 a.m. (not long after servers came up from maintenance). Unfortunately there's nothing we can do in these situations, but we've been assured by our ISP that action has been taken to make sure things stabilize.

Does this reflect on whats been happening the past 6 weeks aswell?

No, this was an isolated incident. We're planning to make a new post this week to address the latency that started in November and let everyone know where things stand.

Instead of crying....move closer to BHS HQ, play TERA on STEAM

For one thing, please be more polite towards your fellow TERA players. Being rude to someone upset about lag accomplishes nothing.

Secondly, playing TERA on Steam and playing TERA through the launcher has no effect on connectivity. The servers are the same.

Thirdly... Bluehole is in Korea, our TERA servers aren't. You can still move there if you like, though :p
I'm here and reading posts, but please don't make new threads just to see if I'm still alive :p

Yes, Golden Gift Boxes will return this year but I can't say much more than that quite yet.

Maintenance will begin at 7 a.m. PST on Tuesday, December 6. It should last about two hours.

Only one note for tomorrow:
http://tera.enmasse.com/news-page/patch-notes/patch-500203en2

But this downtime will give us the opportunity to implement some server changes we believe will improve latency, especially around Dreamstorm (which will resume its normal schedule).
That's amazing.
Welcome to TERA, Pamcake! There's already great advice in this thread but I wanted to make sure you knew about the New & Returning Player subforums where you can post any questions as they arise. There are always people ready and willing to answer odd questions in there as you familiarize yourself with the game.
