We provide constant feedback to the developers but they have to prioritize the feedback with 5 other territories. You all have helped shaped the game in a variety of ways both by community feedback - but more importantly by your actual play. We constantly look at the data for how our community plays TERA and discuss it with Bluehole.
We wanted to do something nice for a group of players we felt were going above and beyond in multiple areas of the game or community.

Each person on the list was chosen for a reason, if they claim they do not know why they received the mount - that is up to them to claim.

Thing is though, is there a possibility of error or something? In all honesty I don't think Treeshark chose the right words for this situation.

There was no error, we verified the list after the script ran to deliver the items and it was correct.

Treeshark will be the first to admit saying "top 1%" wasn't what he meant to get across in terms of how we chose these folks. He didn't take a list of TERA players and draw a line at 1% than laugh maniacally. It was determined off what we felt were key numbers within the variables he listed - time and purchases - with a wild card for community involvement or leadership.

We want to reward players we feel are going above and beyond. Odds are we will do this again - especially if these chosen folk continue to be good advocates in the community and continue to play TERA.
LSOLive on 03/31/2014, 09:48 PM - view
This is a prime example that EME needs to do something to fix this situation ASAP. Any 'event' that creates this sort of behavior within the community should not have happened at all.

If you want to stop 'events' that creates [filtered] behavior we might as well shut down the internet.
Yesuna on 03/31/2014, 09:52 PM - view
I like you EME, and I think you do good things for NA Tera that makes it much better than say, EU. However, I really really do not think you should ever run something like this again. We know you appreciate us by all the little events you've been doing and your presence on our forums.

I am sure to the majority of people, this event did not come off in the way you've intended it to, and hearing you speak of possible repeats in the future seems to me to be a very bad idea.

Just my two cents.

Thank you for the thought out response. If you look at any good service based business, they reward their top customers. Airlines, department stores, gas stations, all of them do something to reward their customers. This type of program isn't anything new.

And for those asking for the formula we aren't going to give the exact numbers.
LSOLive on 03/31/2014, 09:59 PM - view
They also usually have clear criteria to becoming a 'top customer'

The criteria is very clear but it is internal. We aren't going to go out and say anyone who spent $XXX,XXX will earn a mount.

We could work on developing some sort of bar that shows your progress to a gift such as this. That may help in your progress, but the actual formula - since it doesn't involve money spent - should remain internal. This type of thing isn't easy to develop but we will look into it.

So you guys already predicted this kind of thread?

I'm becoming convinced y'all are just gonna yell APRIL FOOLS at some point.

Not April Fools, although it was planned for tomorrow so we pushed it up one day early to avoid any confusion. Probably should have done it at the end of the week.

And yes it was predicted because whenever one person gets something and another doesn't we get complaints. This is more complaints than expected so we will take the feedback and re-evaluate it and make it better the next time.
Keishah on 03/31/2014, 10:07 PM - view
u just contradicted ur self, so none of this is based on USD spent? i could have sworn its been mentioned thats its part of it . infact let me assemble the posts to be clear.

Purchases were factored in - I just meant we aren't going to publicly give the USD amount.
Yesuna on 03/31/2014, 10:16 PM - view
That's not a valid comparison. During that event, the rules and procedures were clearly defined, and everyone knew them.

There has been many story changes, from "amount spent in the store" to "no USD involved," to "valued customer."

I stand with my original point. The amount of backlash this is getting, I would say is hardly worth the effort put into making this an event in the first place.

While I understand your point about rewarding "top customers," by alienating the non-priority, not-top customers, you may be digging yourself into a hole. I would hate to see EME go down in the opinions of players, because I know you all work hard.

"Top customer" is itself contradicting the points being made earlier by staff. In my definition book, and I am sure many other people's, a "customer" is one who "buys." If you were to set up a clear tier system for game contribution or "customer ranking," I am sure less people would be disappointed.

I would really advise against a repeat of this in the future, even though I am not a PR expert.

The messaging could have been smoother. As I said we will take what we learned and do better next time.
LSOLive on 03/31/2014, 10:17 PM - view
I'm honestly still shocked that I had this sort of response from an executive producer. As someone who loves the game, loves the events that EME usually do (exception of this one), I'm not going to stop playing the game. If this was any other business, they would be losing my business for good.

I am merely pointing out that we see this type of behavior in everything we do, it is the nature of the business. There are always [filtered]s that want to ruin things for other people, just for the sake of ruining it.

Deliria on 03/31/2014, 10:21 PM - view
Instead of doing better next time, why don't you fix the mess that you just caused?

We can't go back and re-message this. We have explained ourselves by now. We will work on how we message and communicate it better next time.

The mount isn't being added or removed because we already verified it met our criteria.
Let's stay constructive.
Actual real money price went down on average 5%.

This is in addition to each item's EMP price being readjusted to the new ratio of 1 to 100.

Everyone who already owned EMP got a bump in value - this is a good thing.

As for price drops/adds you can't announce that kind of stuff ahead of time. This is how we always have handled sales on our store for things such as weekend sales.

I would pay like $40 for a permanent travel journel or Atlus, but they won't do that because it's what keeps lots of people paying for elite.

Also, being the crafty person that I am, while normally I wouldn't do this, I just bought it on one account and gifted to my other and I got 3 for 2.. got some mounts and a lot of SB out of it so I'm good.

The value is in gifting! It pays to be nice.
Imke on 12/12/2013, 04:22 PM - view
I really love the idea of giving presents to friends c: and the fact you get a free one if you send 2...
what I don't like is T_T you can get a candyspinner or sterling templates. Idk about other servers but they definitely don't add up to like 30k (assuming 10:1 ratio). The lure of really nice things is very tempting :c but idk how happy people will be to open their boxes come christmas and get a candyspinner v_v; then again they might get a perm atlas. sigh I'm just really not a lucky rng person. its like opening a present and you get a brick or you get an xbox one. 30 dollars a box is kinda steep for such a gamble.

By gifting with friends to get free ones, buying 2-packs, and purchasing EMP at higher denominations for the bonus EMP - the cost per box is actually wayyyy less than 2,750 EMP per gift box.
Some fun ideas!

Everyone talks a big game but if we went and made a more difficult server, would you guys really play on it? Opening up and maintaining a new server has a cost - both in development and ongoing maintenance. Would you guys be willing to start over on a new server? Would you stick around knowing your progression would be more difficult? What constitutes difficulty? BAM's only? Death penalties? Bosses? More damage? More HP for mobs?
Lointaine on 10/07/2013, 10:12 AM - view
knoxxer, honestly speaking, I don't think anyone will actually start from scratch. You know, the game structure itself making all the content from 1 to 58 pretty much meaningless. So there's not so many people who'll want to do it again like 9-th time just for increased difficulty; and new server need quite a lot of people, not just a bunch of enthusiasts.

It may work if seriously remake PVE to 'open-world' type (so I can go anywhere at it may have meaning regardless of my level). If not, "hardcore" server pretty much needs only some new "hardcore" endgame content, maybe some powerful world bosses, and that's a different thing than a whole new server.

Thanks Lointaine, that is good feedback, I think doing 1-58 again - even if more difficult - would be a deterrent as well.
Common themes I am seeing:

- Fresh start is ok, so long as leveling is accelerated in some way...
- More HP isn't good because it means longer not harder...
- Increase the death penalty (lots of variance in opinions here)
- Harder BAMs are a must
Awesome tips OP.
We hope to take what we learn from this test event and apply it to future events and promotions. So far things are going well so I expect we will do something similar in the future but we have nothing specific to announce at this time.
We have a couple optimization tweaks coming. I am not sure what build we will get them in but QA indications are quite positive.
Make sure you haven't modified the textures in the game. This seems to be a cause for some folks.

My posts have stayed the same. I bashed the game and made dev threads all the time. Some naughty people on here use the voting system in ways it was not intended, although I don't blame them since the voting wasn't really thought out very well.

Should probably limit number of votes per day so people don't go willy nilly voting on everything that doesn't need their opinion. Sometimes people get down voted for nothing like saying "hi" and some people on here are really vindictive when others don't agree with them as well. Also whos stopping who from making a million accounts and up voting themselves.

Correct you have stayed true and hostile from start to finish :)

We know all accounts created by the same person because it is a huge red flag for things like RMT. Not really worth flagging yourself to try and bump up a title, everyone has their secrets and all it takes is a bit of attention.

Not to mention the annoyance of actually voting for yourself thousands of times. To each their own, the end of the day it is a title on a forum - if there wasn't all these fun 'what ifs' then the system would be pretty boring.
We have some great content lined up - refer to Treesharks producer letter - it is coming along but taking some time. I hate to sound like a broken record but the past few months Bluehole has been to improving the turnaround time by optimizing their build process. The results will start to come to fruition in our next major update this summer.
Upvotes all around!
Alright I laughed... I am a terrible person.

YAY!!

So how do you keep people from going through and down voting someone out of spite? And having to go in and fix it again?

We can see the outliers quite easily and check them out if we want for legitimacy. For the most part it evens out.

I am enjoying watching everyone figure out the system, guess that means it was a good addition to the forums to receive this much attention.
Summer starts in June, and REALLY heats up in early July.
Bayon on 05/30/2013, 09:27 AM - view
EME is probably familiar with how redundant account voting works. Once an account is flagged it's undoubtedly corrected.

We have always looked for multiple account folk as a red flag - no different for the forums.
Khandi on 05/30/2013, 09:28 AM - view
I just thought of a way to enjoy this feature a little more.

If you can go through and down vote someone out of spite (or up vote out of love ./blush) then we, and everyone else should be able to see you is up/down voting a comment and the posters history.

For example, I have always enjoyed your posts Jarvan and if you could see who has voted you, you would see that I have and everyone should be able to see it as well.

Don't forget that you have to make a ton of posts to actually get downvoted. Someone like who posts way too much like Fatwa is going to be more vulnerable then someone who posts once or twice a week. By posting more - for better or worse - you are putting yourself out there to be judged.

But really Knoxxer, lets put some transparency into it and see who is up or down voting people.

I considered it. Reddit allows you to turn it on but defaults it as off. I find systems that default to off just don't get used.

I like the current privacy of it because it allows folks to vote without worry.
Thanks for the post Xenoie. We care about the game - it supports our entire business and subsequently each of our families - so of course we also want it to be the best game it can be as well.

We try and communicate our ideas and opinions as much as possible but we also know it can always be done more. Thanks for your feedback on the matter.
Kultra on 05/29/2013, 08:19 AM - view
Well Fiend, the issue with seeing your own votes is double. First of all, the "self upvote" for posting is never counted, so all your totals just adding up are wrong (that is, if whoever made up this system knows anything about how reddit implemented it). Also Elite posts count as double, so anybody with enough free time (we play an MMO after all) will just go down your history and downvote everything you have ever posted just for the lulz.

This isn't exactly true. Anyone who has ever paid us anything counts for 2. For example if you just bought EMP you will forever get 2 votes for or against. Elite and Founder's also qualify you for 2.
Runespider on 05/29/2013, 09:07 AM - view
I think they already said they would ban for negative scores.

It's a great way for 1 single person to get someone banned if they dont like them.

We won't have blanket bans for going really negative. We will look at the hostile folks as a red flag and a piece of a larger puzzle.
We changed the Suspicious threshold to be a bit more lenient. A few of you have been cleared of your wrong doings... for now.
AkizukiRyou on 05/29/2013, 04:50 PM - view
Yeah, I hope for mods it's looked at more as a feedback on what's being said, then agains the person. Minea is great, an it would be weird to see her name in bright red because of a simple news post.

This is why we don't apply the score to moderators as people but instead we look at it as an indication of the message they are delivering. Classic don't shoot the messenger.

Obviously the icegrip thread you guys voiced your opinion on the message - which is cool - not the person.
We have set the titles to reflect your score it should be updated to reflect your contribution to the community over the past 2 weeks.

Progress should happen automatically at this point and updated late each night.
Just a bit suspicious :)
AkizukiRyou on 05/28/2013, 03:36 PM - view
People like Kultra, and Phaere are -1 too, These are people who we can see contribute to the community in meaningful ways, try to be helpful, and all that... I think your scale for -1 is too easy to hit.

I agree - but sometimes being helpful isn't necessarily popular.

That said we can adjust the threshold for the titles if it proves we chose the wrong numbers.
Actually it appears things are updating in real time. Hmm.

Love it.
We will be updating the forums with a bunch of new features and tweaks within the next few hours. There shouldn't be any downtime. We hope the update results in a better forum experience, both in terms of better content and user experience. On to the changes...

Voting System:
You can now vote on individual threads and replies to threads. By voting as a paid player you increase or decrease the total score by 2. If you are a free player then your vote will increase or decrease the score by 1. A paid player means someone who has paid us any amount – EMP, Elite, or Founder’s at any point in their account history. These votes will be used for the new What’s Hot feature and the new User Rating Score.

What’s Hot:
This is a new way to view threads on our forums. It is not a new forum but instead it is an aggregate view across all forums of what is hot. Hot is defined by what you guys are voting on vs. the time it was posted. This page will update about every hour with the latest hot threads so there is no need to constantly refresh it. For the redditors out there this is essentially the front page of our forums. Please note that we are not ranking the replies within a thread and they will remain in chronological order so that you guys can just continue discussion as normal.

User Rating Score:
All votes cast for or against your threads and replies are now collated into a User Rating Score. The actual score is hidden but manifests itself through a scale of -2 to 5, totaling 8 ranks with 8 different titles**. The titles will give an indication of your contribution to the forums to the community. For other players this should help by adding weight to or against a post they are reading. I would highly discourage trying for the -2 title because we will pay particular attention to those players and it could lead to suspension for not being constructive to the community. Much like our reputation system in the game the titles will take time to achieve, think weeks not days in terms of moving up a rank. Titles will be calculated on a daily basis.

We do understand that you guys will try and game the system but the benefits are marginal (a forum title) and the detriments could be severe (suspension of forum and game). So play nice and let’s all try and work towards a healthier forum community.

** Titles will not change for the first week as we evaluate the amount of votes. Once we see the amount of voting activity we shall set the internal score necessary to achieve each title.

Miscellaneous Updates:
  • We added a new avatar icon – Kelsaik
  • The reply box is no longer eye-bleeding-white
  • Replies & Views and Threads & Posts are combined for less columns and more room for the thread title
  • Time stamps are removed at the thread level, they are still visible once you click on the thread
  • The Mark All as Read button is now on the bottom left and the Page Numbers are in the middle
  • Languages such as Korean should now display correctly in our forums
  • We have removed the icon legend at the bottom of the page in favor of mouse overs
  • We are still ironing out a few things.

    The 500 error...
What's Hot won't be great for an hour or two once votes start adding up...
The hover going to the left sucks and will work on getting it fixed...
We are missing a string on the hover scale...
We lost commas on the thousands for replies and threads....
Some wacky displacement on the UI elements...

    Wally is on the case!

    AkizukiRyou on 05/15/2013, 02:25 PM - view
Oh Knoxxer, when you post does it automatically + the post for you? It seems to be but I just wanna make sure I'm not crazy.

Yes but this is subtracted from your score. So just posting won't up your title. This just saves you the trouble of voting for yourself.
    AkizukiRyou on 05/15/2013, 02:42 PM - view
Point proven, look at the past few pages in this thread, everyone is neutral, even though it automatically + you. Which means there are people who will just go in and click minus on everything. So yeah, high threshhold needed.

I have the next titles both positive and negative set to a million plus right now. After a week I will see the average gain and loss and set titles appropriately. Impossible to predict without real data. The plan is for them to take time to achieve - forum grind in full effect.

Maybe I'm just too used to reddit, but shouldn't the up/down arrows have different colors? both being blue is kinda of confusing >_>

Hot is a ranking based on positive votes. We have an algorithm that takes time into account so that newer posts have more weight.
Our QA checked into this and could not find anything wrong with the infused charms. We also asked BHS QA to test and but they could not find any problems either.

We double checked and confirmed that no changes were made recently, and charms are working the same way as always.
The next time you renew you will get your Spellbinds. For Kitcalie it will be the 13th and for you, IronCloud, it will be the 27th of May.

This Alliance System is going take more time to bring over because it needs to be applied to PVE servers.

Right now Bluehole is working on getting the system stable and fun in KTERA while simultaneously designing the necessary changes for the PVE servers. Japan, EU and NA all have PVE servers that this system needs to be applied to.

The good news is that it should be a more stable - and thus more fun - system when it hits here. There is no ETA for this Alliance System but we will have other content updates before the Alliance System goes live here.

I have another question, why wouldn't you just release it for PVP servers and give it to the PVE players later on, after the changes are made? I am assuming, based on how the PVE players proclaimed they hate PVP so much in this thread, that they don't even WANT the alliance patch.

We can't run two different versions of the game - that would be a nightmare for everyone. Even 'turning off' the system would take development work. The changes are in progress and we aren't trying to re-invent the system to make it super PVE carebear but merely to fit within the confines of the PvE server which is 'opt in'. The bulk of effort so far has been to stabilize it and make it fun.

Knoxxer, is there any way you can give us some vague time frame like maybe a maximum amount of time this is all going to take? I mean, based on your statement it seems like you also dislike PVE (using the term carebear, I remember that from my EVE-Online days), so I am sure you can sympathize with me.

I never took the word carebear as a negative connotation. I would label myself as a carebear now-a-days. I am too old to run with the PVP crowd anymore - both mentally and physically :)

Time frame? Best I can say is 'summer' I know that isn't helpful but it is something.

So, what I am getting at here is. The fact that KTERA might not have PVE servers (unconfirmed) and the alliance patch taking some time to get to us, is it being delayed simply because they are struggling to incorporate it into a PVE system?

More like it's not coming to us because we're behind like always. Which is not necessarily a bad thing.

Damn any PVP content to hell. PVP is a plague.

Someone with some brains. Most players that like PvP are just immature little jerks that only want to ruin the game for others. That is why I will NEVER play on a server, or play a game that is pure PvP. SO what I migt miss out on some killer game, but too me missing out on something I dislike is no biggie.

But this game, the very fabric of its design and purpose, were made without PVE servers in mind. In Korea, as we have now confirmed, there ARE no PVE servers. So to me, the PVE rendition is like a bad port of something, or deformed creation, it's not what was intended - it's just something made to satisfy the NA population that dislikes PVP.

While you are correct that was the initial intention - PvE servers in each region that launched with them are more popular including our servers. PvP on the Korean servers is quite different than ours. Theirs is more of a blending of PvE and PvP and ours is two extremes with a more hardcore PvP server and a pure PvE server.
The new battleground and the raid are each separate content updates and will happen before the Alliance System update.
The devs are looking into making maid outfits for other races as well but nothing is decided yet. This costume was a special case - these were originally just a small request from Japan that got more excitement then expected in other territories.

All that said our next big costume set will be for race and gender and probably arrive sometime in May.

Maid outfits will be available for sale this Thursday. We always try and release new items on a Thursday.

We will have all the details Thursday but these items won't be locked in a Loot Box as your only option to purchase.

Are you going to censor them?

Just for those that ask for it. I will put you on the list.

Did we really need the spam again?

Can that be for the first 1-2 days and removed, that's just really annoying..

Ugh it wasn't supposed to do this... we will get it removed but not before maintenance on Tuesday.

Oh what the hell, there is a server wide message for opening any of the maid cosmetics from a loot box?

    Really?

Yeah, that wasn't intended. We'll remove that in next Tuesday's maintenance.

To further clarify this first hour will be bad but it will die down after.

i thought we were releasing stuff in the same manner as BHS and Ktera? if so then the weapon skins were supposed to come with the maids outfit :X

I can guarantee you they are NOT releasing stuff in the same manner as BHS and Ktera.

Correct each publisher gets to choose how to release each item individually. I think the weapon skins you are talking about will be up in a few weeks.
Just think, y'all are less than 24 hours away!

We will get the update but it isn't next up on our list. I believe the Kelsaik 20 man raid will be the next big update.

None of these will be paid updates.
We are in the process of finalizing the content for the next content update. Once we know a rough time for these changes we will provide it to you.
Our last forum update allows me to 'insert a post into #2' that way new people to the forum can see the answer and walk away.

    Stop being such negative Nancies.

Knoxxer said Thursday. Assume that Knoxxer is saying that, with the expectation, that, if everything goes "according to plan"(tm) that they will be there on Thursday.

The bigger question is whether to interpret his post as confirmation of direct purchase options for the maid outfits. That's a saucy and fun discussion.

But let's not bash on the people working to deliver stuff.

So there's still hope for the class updates, then? I'll keep my fingers crossed. Thanks for the updated info.

It isn't a matter of hope it is just a matter of when. Bluehole schedules content releases to each publisher and as soon as we are assured of the next content release and it is reasonable to assume the date can be met we tell you guys.
I don't believe any of our sales will include duration items. Those were just for last weeks forum event.

Well they were probably gathering that the maid outfits would have duration versions since pretty much all other cosmetic items in the game, including mounts, have non-tradeable temporary versions.

These won't I just confirmed. Permanent only.

That's good news i suppose ( I don't know anyone who seriously uses rentals )

We are getting both maid outfits right?

Yes both outfits, both emotes, both headbands.

You'd be surprised the duration items sell decent. I like that we give the option.
